FRIDAY
JEFFREY JAMES
@ Soulshine Pizza | 7-PM (5-7PM happy hour) | Free | All Ages
Lightning 100 will, once again, be showcasing their local artist of the week over at Soulshine Pizza to get your evening started. Hey, you gotta put a beer sponge in your stomach before you go out anyway, right? This week’s artist is soul rocker Jeffrey James, and he is definitely in the right place at the right time with this throwback emotive powerful singer/songwriter. You can have a listen below, and make your own decisions about what type of pizza you are going to eat tonight. This one is free as always. [MH]

Let’s face it. You’re gonna end up here. Basically every band you want to see this weekend is at 1 Cannery Row on both Friday and Saturday night, and it’s going to be a blast. But if that’s not enough for you, just keep in mind that Phillip Obenschain and I will be picking the house music in between sets! Feel free to come introduce yourselves, or just to tell us how much you hate our tastes in music. Either way. Read our full preview that includes recommendations of who to see at each venue on each night right here! [AC]

CHARILIFT w/ TREEKEEPER, FUTURE UNLIMITED (DJ SET)
@ Marathon Music Works | 8PM (7PM doors) | Free | 18+
Bummer: Animal Collective, who were originally slated to perform at Marathon tonight, had to cancel. Not so bummer: to make up for it, the venue will be hosting a FREE performance from Brooklyn, synthy indie rockers Chairlift. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, you’ll surely recognize their breakout hit “Bruises” (below). Need more convincing to attend a FREE show? Support comes from DJ TreeKeeper, who will also be performing a late night afterparty set with Robin Carnage. Additionally, Nashville’s Future Unlimited will DJ. [PO]
MILKTOOTH w/ COMMITMENT BELLS
@ THE EAST ROOM | 9PM | $5 | 18+
We’ve told you quite a bit about local rockers Milktooth in the past. We’re huge fans (and so is Beck); their original songs are just as great as their prolific and perfectly-executed covers series. If you didn’t catch ’em at our Two Year Anniversary Party, then they might just be the best $5 investment you’ll find tonight. Openers Commitment Bells recently released their new album, and are perfectly fit for the bill. [PO]
OBN III’S w/ EX-CULT, D. WATUSI, CY BARKLEY & THE WAY OUTSIDERS
@ The Stone Fox | 9PM | $10 | 18+
If punk is what you’re in the mood for, The Stone Fox is where you need to be. Austin garage punks OBN III’s are joined by a seriously impressive bill of Memphis’s Ex-Cult and Nashville’s D. Watusi and Cy Barkley & the Way Outsiders. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen this combo of bands perform together, and it’s sure to be a great time! [PO]
THE WILD w/ CHICKEN LITTLE, BANDIT
@ The End | 9PM (8PM doors) | $10 | 18+
Hailing from Atlanta, The Wild blend punk, folk, and indie into a sound all their own, and one that we just can’t get enough of. Their new album, Dreams are Maps, was produced by Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, which should be reason enough to pique your interest. Support comes from the equally talented Chicken Little and Bandit. This might be the most underrated show of the night, check it out! [PO]
THE ROGUE w/ TESSLA ROSSA, SHARK WEEK
@ The Basement | 9PM (8PM doors) | $5 | 21+
QDP
@ The 5 Spot | 9PM | $1 | 21
It’s the 3rd Friday of the month, butchies and queens, and you know what that means: the time is nigh for the QDP – The Queer Dance Party, Nashville’s best boundary-crossing-gender-
ASG, BLEEDING HEART BLUES, TIJUANA GOAT RIDE
@ Springwater Supper Club | 9PM | 21+
JELLY ROLL w/ LIL WYTE, CASKEY, WORM, RITTZ, MOLLY GANG
@ 12th & Porter | 9:30PM (8PM doors) | $30 | 18+
THE BLACK CROWES w/ TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND
@ The Woods at Fontanel | 5:30PM | $49.50-115 | All Ages
You already know how awesome the Black Crowes are. But you may not know how awesome the Tedeschi Trucks Band are. The brainchild of husband and wife duo Derek and Susan Trucks, this outfit is one of the few (the proud) blues bands that will actually succeed in maintaining your interest throughout the entirety of their songs. Susan kills it on the vocals, and Derek, if you didn’t already know, is a true modern blues maestro — and one of the few who you’ll actually wish took more solos. Putting this much awesomeness on one bill means that this show will indeed be “Hard to Handle.” See below if you don’t understand. [AC]

BANG OK BANG, THE JOY KILLS, ROMAN POLANSKI’S BABY, 3 BIRDS
@ fooBAR.too | 9PM | 21+
For those of you that like smokey and the East Side, you are probably reading this from a bar stool at FooBar. Well, lucky you, you can stay right there until 3 Birds, Bang Ok Bang, and Roman Polanski’s Baby invade the stage there on Saturday night. We’ve chatted a bit about Bang Ok Bang & we’ve been lucky enough to check out local garage rockers Roman Polanski’s Baby, but 3 Birds just recently pinged our radar with their heavy blues rock, so we’ll give you a bit of that to get you in the mood. It starts at the usual time (late) and tickets cost the usual amount (cheap). [MH]
HELLO WALLS w/ PAGENT, THE KERNEL, WATERFALL WASH
@ The 5 Spot | 9PM | 21+
For those of you that like smokey and the East Side and don’t like FooBar are probably within walking distance of The 5 Spot. And, it’s a mixture of tempo’d twang going on over there on Saturday night. Hello Walls are playing all over town these days, so be one of the first to get to know them now. You’ll also get a nice Wilco-esque sound from Pageant. The rest of the bill include The Kernal and some of our old pals Waterfall Wash. You can check out a bit of Pageant below and judge my judgement. This one gets going around 9pm, and, if it costs over $5, just tell them that Andrew sent you. [MH]

It’s hot and the ladies of Music City Burlesque are ready to peal back a few layers this weekend at Marathon Music Works. And this season, they’re heading back to the heyday of the Brady brats with the Super ’70s VarieTEASE. Saturday’s show features flexible pole “sinsation”, Alethea Austin, “brick house burlesque beauty” GiGi LaFemme, and starring Burlesque Hall of Fame winner all the way from Austin, Texas, Ruby Joule. There will be a ’70s costume contest for those with heavy cases of Saturday Night Fever, King Dado Deluxe will serve as host, and DJ Howard (LA FORCE, QDP) will be spinning “some heavy tunes.” VIP tables are no longer available but there’s plenty of room to shuffle at just $15 in advance and $20 DOS. SMITH WESTERNS w/ WAMPIRE
@ Exit/In | 9PM (8PM doors) | $12/14 | 18+
Smith Westerns bring their lo-fi fuzzy pop to Exit/In on Sunday night. We’ve been fans of the Chicago youngsters since they burst on the scene in 2009 with their self-titled debut, but everyone has probably heard a few of their songs in various media outlets by now. Their 2011 follow up, Dye It Blond, received massive critical acclaim, and landed them in pretty much every festival in the country. You probably know the track “Weekend” from that album, and the track “Varsity” from their newest release, Soft Will, has been getting a lot of play these days. You can check that track below, and get to know openers Wampire here. Things get started around 9pm, and you can still grab tickets here. [MH]
