While they graced us with both a headlining and co-headling show in 2014, seminal punk outfit Against Me!, whose seventh full-length Shape Shift With Me arrived last fall, seem long-overdue for a Music City return. We’ve gotten our fix at festivals (Forecastle in 2014, Bonnaroo in 2015, Shaky Knees in 2016), but nothing beats catching the unparalleled, long-running, socially relevant punk outfit in a tiny room. If you’re a fan, then you almost certainly know what we’re talking about, and if you, too, are impatiently waiting for the group to announce something, anything, near Nashville, then we have some news that might tide you over- if you’re not adverse to driving.
In between arena outings supporting Green Day, on a run that hits Atlanta tomorrow, AM! are keeping it punk, and filling in the gaps with tiny club shows. One such show takes place tonight, March 9 at Memphis club The Hi Tone, which, if you’re not familiar, is roughly the size of Nashville’s own Exit/In. As of writing, tickets are still available, and, we know, a three hour drive sounds like a drag when we live in a city with so much readily accessible music every day, but for the superfans, it’s a great excuse to pretend like it’s high school, take a spontaneous road trip, and soak up one of the best, most important punk bands in the world today.
Road-tripping to Memphis on a weeknight not in the cards? We still suggest giving Against Me!’s brand new video for single “Haunting, Haunted, Haunts,” a song we saw them unveil for the first time last year at Shaky Knees, a spin. A “kaleidoscopic visual journey,” the animated spot perfectly compliments the chaotic track. Watch below!
