Catch Roots of a Rebellion w/ Floralorix & Chinese Connection Dub Embassy | TONIGHT @ Exit/In

With the goal of keeping their stellar momentum going from 2016 into 2017, middle Tennessee reggae rockers Roots of a Rebellion are hosting a killer night of music with the most irie vibes you’re likely to catch this far north of Jamaica. In celebration of the incomparable Bob Marley’s upcoming birthday (Feb. 6 to be precise), ROAR plus their like minded amigos Floralorix, and Chinese Connection Dub Embassy will be playing very special versions of Marley songs, surely to be  jammed out Music City style. The 18+ show is happening tonight, Feb. 3 at Exit/In, and tickets are available for just $12.

If you’re even a slight fan of reggae, or you just love Bob Marley, this concert is a must. More importantly, if you answered yes to either/both of these question, the gig is a great way for you to get acquainted with the Tennessee reggae movement… if you haven’t already. Two of its biggest local promoters are playing this bill, and we’ve covered them both multiple times before. ROOTS OF A REBELLION 

Music City residents we’ve been hip to for a while now, Roots of a Rebellion appear to be picking up serious steam as they continue to charge head first into 2017. Over the course of several years, the soulful reggae dub rock outfit have built a strong following all over the southeast, adding fans to their flock with their high energy live shows and message of unity. The people of Nashville also made it clear what we think of the local boys too, voting them Best Local Band in the Nashville Scene’s 2015 readers poll, which adds credence to the growing Tennessee reggae movement. Anyone who follows this blog regularly also knows the group won this year’s Road to Roo competition, and of course we caught their set on The Farm this past summer, but they also dropped a new record recently. Entitled A Brother’s Instinct, the LP scratches all of our reggae rock itches, hitting just the right spots. So see for yourself what’s got everyone talking, and enjoy this beloved local band that’s already shared the stage with the likes of The Wailers, Slightly Stoopid, and SOJA, just to name a few. Help be part of their growing fanbase, and catch the vibes!

FLORALORIX

Floralorix are also a major cog in the expanding local reggae scene. Formed from the ashes of two other local bands, they have also built a heady reputation around town for a killer live show, backed by amazing material from their debut record, Bloombox, which dropped in 2016. We’ve been hip to them much longer, and became instant fans when they crushed our Acme showcase back in 2015. Gaining traction recently, just like their close friends in ROAR, Floralorix have been popping up on big bills all over town, including opening a sold out gig for 311, and also rocking out at our annual Christmas party. Catch the wave now if you haven’t already, because Tennessee reggae is not a joke, and these peps can make you believers!

CHINESE CONNECTION DUB EMBASSY 

Dabbling in various genres, and borrowing from r&b, jazz, rock, hip-hop, clasical, and gospel, Chinese Connection Dub Embassy pass everything through dub/reggae filter. Already notching some big opening spots as well, for acts like Big Sean, Glen Washington, and The Original Wailers, Dub Embassy is also ready to continue an up trend. Much like their Nashville counterparts, Memphis based CCDE are another incredibly hard working band in the area, determined to bring back unity to reggae music world wide. Dive into their latest LP, The Firm Foundation, and be sure to get to the venue at 8:30 sharp, so you don’t miss a second of their set.
