Lucy Dacus Brings ‘Forever Is a Feeling’ Tour to The Ryman for Two-Night Residency, April 29 & 30

Though, undoubtedly, the massive success of her supergroup boygenius’ 2023 debut full-length, The Record, helped propel singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus to new heights of fame and mainstream recognition, the Virginia-born, folk-tinged indie rocker has been releasing incredible solo music now for a decade. Raised in the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia, and a several-year resident of Philly before relocating to LA, Dacus recorded her debut album, early 2016’s No Burden, right here in Nashville, immediately capturing the attention of famed indie label Matador Records, who signed Dacus and re-released the LP later that same year. Adopting a personal, confessional songwriting style and a propulsive, folk-informed indie rock sound, Lucy honed her live show with a ton of touring in those early years, regularly making stops in Nashville at small venues like The Basement, The High Watt, 3rd & Lindsley, and The Basement East, and performing at festivals around the nation, like nearby Bonnaroo. By 2018’s sophomore effort Historian, refining and elevating the sound of her debut, Dacus had become a critical darling, and had begun to attract a passionate fanbase, hitting the road that same year with fellow young, earnest, emotionally-resonant indie artists Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker (including a stop at The Ryman). The tour prompted the trio to pen some songs together to perform live, which became their first EP as boygenius, initially a project without any apparent long-term plans. boygenius was met with universal acclaim, however, and the group continued to make intermittent appearances beyond the tour, and to collaborate with each other, including on Lucy’s 2021 third album, Home Video, her biggest and most successful record to that point, which led to increasingly high-profile live dates, TV appearances, and more.

2023, of course, became the year of boygenius, with The Record catapulting the project to more critical and commercial success than ever before, leading to multiple Grammys, a show-stealing set at Coachella, an appearance on SNL, and big summer tour, along with other monumental achievements, like a surprise appearance at Taylor Swift’s Nashville Eras Tour shows (a surreal connection which even led to Lucy being name-dropped on The Tortured Poets Department). After that whirlwind album cycle, boygenius announced at the start of 2024 that they would be going on hiatus, and shifting gear back to their respective solo projects, with Dacus becoming the first of the trio to release a new album, last month’s Forever Is a Feeling. Dreamy, string-laden, and perhaps more happy and content than any of her prior efforts, Forever clearly draws from Lucy’s real-life relationship with boygenius bandmate Julien Baker, serving as a self-reflection and navigation of falling deeply for someone new, and featuring contributions from the likes of Baker and Bridgers, Hozier, Bartees Strange, Maddison Cunningham, and more. Lucy is currently out in support on an expansive North American tour, and is set to play her biggest Nashville headliners to date with a two-night residency at The Ryman Auditorium tonight, April 29 and tomorrow, April 30. Making the lineup all the more essential are MUNA’s Katie Gavin, out in support of her fantastic debut solo album, and buzzy British indie rocker jasmine.4.t, and a handful of tickets for both shows still remain right here! We’ve been fans of Lucy Dacus for years now, and are thrilled by all of the well-deserved attention she’s received lately, and couldn’t think of a more perfect venue than The Ryman for her powerful and profound live show. Don’t miss out!

Lucy Dacus, Katie Gavin, and jasmine.4.t will perform April 29 and 30 at The Ryman Auditorium. The shows are all ages, begin at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.), and tickets are available for $39.50-79.50 here (4/29) and here (4/30).
