Well, we have good news and bad news if you’re fans of local psychedelic dream-pop rockers Shy Guy. First the bad: tonight’s show, at The 5 Spot, with Penicillin Baby, Body of Light and Dogtooth, will be the bands farewell performance under said moniker. The good news: this show is only $5, and they assure us they’ll be back soon with a new name, new songs and a new line-up.
Read on after the jump for more information, but whatever you do don’t miss your last chance to see a Nashville band we’ve been enjoying since 2013. If you can’t make it, or have made other plans (which you should cancel), don’t feel too bad. This is music city, so bands don’t ever really die, they just trade pieces.
SHY GUY
Shy Guy is a local four-piece who crank out ethereal psychedelic tinged shoegaze that is wonderfully awesome to zone the fuck out to, or crank up in your car on a road trip of any length. Their debut EP Dreams, was in heavy rotation with us in the summer of ’13 and we’ve been seeing them play around town ever since, including a great performance at this years Road To Bonnaroo series. Snag the EP here, or just have a taste below, but if you’re looking for something to do tonight this (temporary) farewell performance should be your first choice!
PENICILLIN BABY
Just as psych rock (ribbed with outer space rifts), Penicillin Baby are one of our favorite local bands, who seem to generating more and more buzz as of late . They recently played the No cell Phones show we told you about, and their latest tracks continue to bolster an impressive catalog. Check out the video for one of our favorites below and be sure to get to the show in time to see them.
BODY OF LIGHT
Layered, reverb dream-poppsters Body of Light call Music City home as well, and you can sample their goods below, but take our word for it, they are always a good time.
DOGTOOTH
Rounding out the all local bill, Dogtooth will be offering their post-rock shoe gaze sounds, which are worth more then just a listen.
Shy Guy, Penicillin Baby, Body Of Light and Dogtooth will perform TONIGHT at The 5 Spot. The show is +21, begins at 9 (doors at 7), and tickets are available for $5 at the door.
