Record Store Day 2014

Record Store Day 2014 is upon us.  The day when we rise with the sun to support our local record stores, and to snag some real goodies in the process.  Per usual, Nashville record stores are taking this to the next level with an afternoon chock full of performances from some of your favorite local and touring acts.  While this can be a daunting day of decision, it’s also one of our favorite fun-days of the year.  We’ve run down everything that is happening around town from SoBro to Inglewood, so, after the jump, we’ve got you covered.

GRIMEYS NEW AND USED RECORDS
1604 8th Avenue South | 10am – 8pm

Leave it to Grimey’s to throw another insane lineup together for Record Store Day.  Do you remember the insanity surrounding Paramore playing last year?  Welp, Grimeys are back this year with another solid helping of RSD madness, and they’re backing that with eats from Jeni’s Ice Cream, Street Provisions, Smoke Et Al, Crankees Pizzeria, and Olive & Sinclair.  The fine folks from Welcome to 1979 will be playing some masters from their “Upstairs At The United” record series, and our pals from Do 615 will be tossing around the shwag as well. As if that wasn’t enough already, you have all of these amazing acts below, and DJ sets from a number of our pals in between. So don’t miss out on another great celebration of Grimeys!

11:30 – Lower Caves
12:15 – Secret Sisters
1:00 – NEEDTOBREATHE*
1:45 – John Oates
2:30 – Promised Land Sound
3:15 – PUJOL
4:00 – Bully
4:45 – Ranch Ghost
5:30 – Majestico
6:15 – Apache Relay

* There will be a separate line for a “meet and greet” for those that purchase their new album Rivers In The Wasteland.

THIRD MAN RECORDS
623 7th Avenue South | 7am – 6pm

You had to expect something miraculous out of Third Man Records this year, right?  With Jack White’s new solo album on the horizon, it’s fitting that they would be pulling out all the stops.  Jack White will be going for a world record for the fastest ever recording to the store attempt on RSD with a live performance at 10am.  Don’t get too excited about that one unless you are holding an Ultra Ticket, but there is still plenty to see and do on 7th Avenue South including a special Two Boots “Third Man Records (iii)” pie, Yazoo Brews, Bang Candy, and other goodies… like a Whirlwind Heat reissue!  Oh yeah, they’ll have live jams for you as well.

7:00 – Breakfast on the patio
10:00 – Jack White Recording (in the Blue Room for Ultra Ticket Holders)
12:00 – Waxed & Jawws
2:00 – Whirlwind Heat (in the Blue Room for Ultra Ticket Holders)
TBD – Delivery of Jack White recording from United Record Pressing

FOND OBJECT
1313 McGavock Pike | 10am – 10pm

Nashville’s newest hockers of music (and other random bits) have really made a name for themselves in Inglewood’s Riverside  Village and beyond over the past year.  With a killer back yard (complete with a petting zoo) that is prime for great daytime gatherings, it’s a bit of paradise on a otherwise busy intersection.  Record Store Day 2014 also serves as a first birthday for the young’ens, but we’ve already seen that they are adept at partying.  This one will feature MC/DJ Tom Sharpling, eats from Tacos Andreas & Super Dogs, nice brews (Starr Hill & Little Harpeth), a bar from our cross town friends at The Stone Fox, and a market of local music and more.  Of course, you can’t forget that you get to pet on Dottie the Pot Bellied Pig and goats, Lou & Cliff.  Performances are below!

12:00 – Joey Plunkett of JP5
1: 00 – The Tendoor
2:00 – Buffalo Clover
3:00 – Fly Golden Eagle
4:00 – Kings of the F**king Sea
5:00 – Promised Land Sound
6:00 – PUJOL
7:00 – Misfruits (Turbo Fruits playing Misfits covers)

THE GROOVE
1103 Calvin Avenue | 10am – 8pm

We began our Record Store Day 2013 at The Groove, and the spirits will be equally as high as stellar weather is predicted again this year!  The Groove features food & drink specials from Mas Tacos, The Filling Station, and Porter Road Butchers; and a sidewalk sale will feature records and tons of local craft goods.  The music, of course, will rule the day featuring DJ sets from KDSML, Chris Crofton, and Angie Dorin; as well as, performances from all the artists shown below.

1:00 – Shy Guy
2:10 – Mouth Reader
3:15 – Blank Range
4:30 – NUDITY
5:30 – Bully
6:30 – Nikki Lane
7:00 – Gay Vibes

Record Store Day 2014 is Saturday April 19th. All of the events listed above are free and all ages.
