If you’re a fan of vibey, rootsy, worldly, yet pop accessible tunes, brought to life by honed and jam-infused live performances, then Florida’s The Hip Abduction are definitely a group who should be on your radar. Out in support of brand new fourth album To the Ends of the Earth, the buzzy band are set to headline Exit/In tonight, Aug. 17, with fellow Floridians and eclectic reggae outfit Artikal Sound System tapped to support. Tickets are still available here while they last, and you can read on for more about the show below!

THE HIP ABDUCTION

Formed in St. Petersberg, Florida in 2010, the members of genre-bending world pop outfit The Hip Abduction– David New (vocals, guitar), Chris Powers (bass), Dave Johnson (baritone, tenor saxophone), Cody Moore (keyboards), Matt Poynter (drums, vocals), and Justino Walker (guitar)- bonded initially over a shared interest in West African and early Jamaican dub and reggae, forging a vibey, cult-favorite sound that incorporates elements of rich indie pop, rootsy soul, and more. Across four independently-released LPs, 2011’s One Less Sound, 2013’s The Hip Abduction, 2016’s Gold Under the Glow, and brand new effort To the Ends of the Earth, the band have attracted a passionate fanbase and a reputation for dynamic and honed live shows, having already shared the stage with big names like Trey Anastasio, Grace Potter, Ziggy Marley, Rebelution, Umphrey’s McGee, Matisyahu, 311, and Thievery Corporation, and appeared at fests like Jam Cruise, Sweetwater 420 Fest, Electric Forest, Cali Roots Fest, Deep Roots Mountain Revival, and Peach Fest, among many others. Packing good vibes and a worldly, jam-primed penchant, The Hip Abduction are a must-see for fans of rootsy, genre bending, pop accessible world music.

ARTIKAL SOUND SYSTEM

Also Floridians, hailing from Delray Beach, Artikal Sound System pack a sound with similarly good vibes, albeit with a much more conventionally reggae approach, fusing a unique blend of American, Hispanic, and Jamaican influence into their worldly stylings. Though they haven’t attracted a ton of mainstream recognition, Artikal have spent years perfecting their party-starting, island fueled tunes, with several records to their name and even some impressive chart success. Anchored by the smooth vocal stylings of singer Logan Rex, the band have shared the stage with artists like Pepper, Dirty Heads, The Wailers, Less Than Jake, The Aggrolites, and Jesse Royal, and seem perfectly well-suited to get this party started.

The Hip Abduction and Artikal Sound System will perform tonight, Aug. 17 at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $15.
