LennyKravitz-620

Still touring in support of last year’s 11th LP, Raise Vibration, his first in several years after a bout of writer’s block, famed, long-running rocker Lenny Kravitz recently announced a return to Music City, his first in a decade, Sept. 12 at Ascend Amphitheater! Breaking out huge in the ’90s with hits like “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Fly Away,” and “American Woman,” Kravitz has long been a beloved fixture in the rock world, and also an icon of style, an acclaimed designer, and a globe-trotting celebrity. Though he still tours at a decently regular clip, he’s increasingly busy with various other creative endeavors, so there’s no telling when Lenny might make it back to Nashville next. We’d encourage you to snag tickets here while they last! Or, if you’d rather take your chances, we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Read on for more about the show, and enter for a chance to win below.

LENNY KRAVITZ

Born and raised in New York City to actress mother Roxie Roker and television producer father Sy Kravitz, rocker Lenny Kravitz found himself drawn to music from a young age, raised on r&b, jazz, classical, opera, gospel, and blues, exposed to famous and influential artists from his parents’ social circle, and encouraged to take up a variety of instruments in his youth. After moving to Los Angeles his family at 10, Kravitz spent a few years in the California Boys Choir, and attended the prestigious Beverly Hills High School, all the while honing his craft as a performer and songwriter, immersing himself in both contemporary and classical rock music, dabbling in some acting, and assimilating into the LA art scene. After briefly flirting with a Prince-esque musical alter-ego, Romeo Blue, in his 20s, and ultimately landing a deal with Virgin Records, Kravitz, who’d recently moved back to New York and married actor Lisa Bonet (with whom he shares a daughter, actor and musician Zoë Kravitz), settled on making music under his own name, releasing debut full-length Let Love Rule in 1989, met with decent critical buzz for his retro-rock sensibilities and throwback, Bohemian inspired style. The dissolution of his marriage with Bonet colored his more melancholy and contemporary sounding 1991 followup, Mama Said, and by ’93’s Are You Gonna Go My Way, the eclectic multi-instrumentalist’s critical breakthrough, Kravitz had adopted a more straightforward, hard rocking, radio friendly sound, becoming a bona fide rock star over the next several years. The ’90s would see other huge hits like “Fly Away” and a cover of The Guess Who’s “American Woman,” as Lenny continued to hone his fusion of rock, funk, soul, blues, and psychedelia, establishing himself as a permeant fixture in the rock world, a style icon, and famed performer. In more recent decades, Kravitz has continued to release well-received records and tour the world, as well as frequently support friends in other huge acts, and has also branched out into design with his own well-regarded firm, as well as photography, and acting (including roles in the likes of Precious and The Hunger Games), bouncing between residences in the Caribbean and, most recently Brazil, as well as spending extended periods in New York, LA, and Paris.  Last year’s 11th LP Raise Vibration, his first in four years, feels like a wonderful return to form, and is one of several new releases Kravitz has produced since last playing Nashville a decade ago. Needless to say, this return performance is a must for any long-time fan!
