Nashville pop artist Sarah Zanotti springs back onto the scene in 2019 with “Unwanted,” an absolute anthem about desire, emotional whiplash, and external validation. The track explores the area of an expiring relationship where both people know it’s time to end it, but they haven’t quite reached the acceptance stage yet. Zanotti’s vocals are in top form as the verses dance what’s inevitable before the chorus springs roars back to a purely honest confession: “I don’t want to be unwanted.” Our queen Carly Rae Jepsen would be proud of the flawless execution.
Zanotti tells journalist Lisa Cleary, “’Unwanted’ is about our desperation to compromise ourselves just to feel good enough. And in this particular story, I was fighting to stay in something far past its expiration date, because I didn’t want to face rejection – even though I knew the relationship wasn’t right for me anymore.”
After earning a degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston and a stint living in Los Angeles, Zanotti moved to Nashville for a fresh start in developing her sound. Drawing inspiration from Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes, and Julia Michaels, Zanotti is an exciting addition to the growing roster of Nashville pop artists.
“Unwanted” is the follow up to a trio of 2018 singles and the cinematic video for “Justify (I Hope You’re F*cked Up).” Give Sarah Zanotti a follow on socials and listen to “Unwanted” below!
