Who the Hell Is Death in Venice? Secretive New Local Supergroup Debut First Single “Mr. Flight Controller”

If you’ve been paying attention to Lightning 100’s Music City Mayhem competition this year, you’ve likely discovered some great new artists, but it’s rare to find one with no released music, little social media presence, and a mystery surrounding their very identity. Meet Death in Venice, a brand new, secretive local supergroup of sorts, whose debut single “Mr. Flight Controller” arrives today, on the heels of that MCM introduction!

While we can’t reveal the band’s identity, we can tell you that if you’re dialed into the local rock scene (and regularly follow our site) you might be able to make some guesses. Fusing their eclectic musical identities, Death in Venice boasts three lead singers and a hypnotic indie and alt-rock sound, and though they only just hit the scene, they already have an EP in the works.

On their first single, the band provided us with this statement:

“Dear Disciples of Death,

Death in Venice are thrilled to release their debut single ‘Mr Flight Controller’ into the mortal realms! We hope you play it loud enough to wake the Underworld!

Death in Venice was born out of 3 friends wanting to reconnect to the joy of making music without any rules! ‘No one puts Death in the corner. ‘

The trio are excited to join the ever expanding alternative music scene in Nashville and will be collaborating with many other talented mortals in the coming months.”

We also got our hands on this leaked top secret document, though it offers few clues about the band:

And we received a quote from the Underworld from Hades himself telling us “Death in Venice sounds like if Vampire Weekend were hanging out with The Strokes and Grouplove at a Neon Trees house party” and we’d say that description is apt, as “Mr. Flight Controller” immediately hooks us with slick production, soaring melodies, and electro-soaked alt rock arrangements.

Listen “Mr. Flight Controller” below, find it on your streaming platform of choice, give DIV a follow at the social media links below, and keep an eye out for more from the band soon as we receive more dispatches from the Underworld!
