[REMINDER] Catch King Khan and the Shrines w/ Muuy Biien & Music Band | TONIGHT @ Mercy Lounge

While prolific frontman King Khan has passed through with various other side projects, it’s been about six years since beloved garage rock group King Khan and the Shrines last played Nashville proper, making their return tonight, June 6 at Mercy Lounge all the more highly-anticiapted! Joined by buzzy Athens up and comers Muuy Biien and local faves Music Band, the performance is this month’s installment of Red Bull Sound Select’s curated showcase series, meaning you can get in for just $3 if you RSVP right here! KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES

One of the most important underground figures of the last several decades, Canadian born King Khan cut his teeth in the Montreal punk and garage scene in the ’90s, fronting several celebrated and bombastic acts before ultimately honing his focus to form King Khan and the Shrines in 1999. A brass-laden, eclectic garage rock outfit with punk sensibilities and influences of psychedelic soul, the group have, over the course of nearly two decades and eight full-length releases, become staples in the garage rock scene. The band have appeared in film and in television, curated soundtracks, toured the world with likeminded acts, and have performed at countless festivals stateside and abroad. Khan himself, now based in Germany with his family, has also found time to form a supergroup with The Black Lips, launch a side project with the Wu Tang’s GZA, and generally serve as something of an elder statesmen of the underground scene. Not as wild live as they once were, King Khan and the Shrines are no less fun, energetic, and unpredictable, and with hints of new music starting to emerge, this summer seems like a great time to catch them once again!

MUUY BIIEN

Hailing from the musical hotbed of Athens, GA, but a sonic departure from much of the city’s scene, Muuy Biien, like King Khan, came up with a reputation for wild and unpredictable live shows. Initially conceived as the ambient project of lead singer Joshua Evans, the group soon expanded into a full-fledged band, settling more into a noise punk sound, building a buzz through DIY shows and self-released records, most recently their appropriately titled sophomore LP, D.I.Y. The group  a planning a new release for this year, said to be more experimental, and, given their ever-growing hype, they’re a perfectly selected compliment to this bill.

MUSIC BAND

A long time site favorite, grungy, psyched-out garage rock trio Music Band have called Nashville home for half a decade now, and have become a staple in the local scene, with their laid back, undeniable cool sound and vibe. They’re a no-brainer to add some extra special local flair to this bill, and have never been anything less than stellar when we’ve caught them live. The group’s latest record, Wake Up Laughing, just dropped a couple months ago, so expect plenty of new tunes on full display!

King Khan and the Shrines, Muuy Biien, and Music Band will perform tonight, June 6 at Mercy Lounge. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $3 with RSVP or $10 without.
