As announced back in the fall, beloved indie songstress Jenny Lewis and frequent collaborators The Watson Twins are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their classic 2006 debut, Rabbit Fur Coat, Feb. 6 at The Ryman Auditorium with M. Ward. The bad news? Unsurprisingly, it sold out pretty much instantly. The good news? You have a chance to win a pair of tickets! Rising to prominence as a member of acclaimed bands Rilo Kiley and The Postal Service, former child actor turned musician Jenny Lewis branched out as a solo performer in the mid ’00s, churning out collaborations with the likes of The Watson Twins and boyfriend Jonathan Rice (under the moniker Jenny and Johnny) as well as producing two fantastic solo studio albums. Her latest, 2014’s Ryan Adams produced The Voyager, is what has kept her on the road constantly in recent years, including a stop a little over a year ago at Marathon Music Works, but that record cycle is finally winding down, allowing Lewis a chance to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the aforementioned Watson Twins collab, Rabbit Fur Coat. Released in 2006, a year before Rilo Kiley’s final album, Rabbit Fur Coat really kickstarted Jenny’s flourishing solo career, cementing her status powerhouse fixture in indie pop. It also gave the world an introduction to Louisville folk duo The Watson Twins, who have gone on to release plenty of amazing collaborations and solo efforts in the years since. Nashville is one of just three cities slated for this tour, and the final one at that, so we should feel extra special to have the chance to celebrate such a beloved modern classic.

THE WATSON TWINS

Real life twins and bandmates The Watson Twins put out their latest album, Pioneer Lane, an upbeat collection of tunes about nature and family rather than their usual heartbreak and darkness, in 2013. It was a departure from their typical gothic bent on indie folk, though it still explores unusual harmonies and digs into American traditional music. Since then, the duo have remained active, occasionally performing live with Lewis as special guests, and seemingly splitting their time between Los Angeles, Nashville, and their home of Louisville. The pair have built a career on collaboration, working with the likes of The Shins, Willie Nelson, and My Morning Jacket, but Rabbit Fur Coat still stands a shining beacon in both theirs and Jenny’s discography.

M. WARD

Portland singer-songwriter M. Ward, known not just for his incredible solo work, but for his involvement with Monsters of Folk, and a half of the duo She & Him, along with Zooey Deschanel, has long been a favorite in the indie folk scene. Ward is set to release his eighth album and first since 2012, More Rain, March 4 via Merge Records, and premiered a new single, “Girl From Conejo Valley,” just last week (check it out below). A frequent collaborator of Lewis’, and certainly cut from the same musical cloth, he’s an unbeatable choice to open this special show.
