Have a look below to find your fancy with this week’s edition of TWiN!
FRIDAY
GEDEON LUKE & THE PEOPLE W/ MEL WASHINGTON
@ The High Watt | 8pm | $10 | 18+
Tennessee born Gedeon Luke and his band The People are back in town and ready to rock you with their new wave soul/big band sounds. Singer songwriter Mel Washington opens up and if you STILL need convincing, read this full preview we ran earlier today. [JR]
THE EXOTICS
@ Mercy Lounge | 8pm | $15 | 18+
Sometimes there is just nothing better than going old school, and The Exotics know how to bring the classics of the ’60s and ’70s to 2015. After the death of one of their founding members, it took years for the other three bandmates to start playing together again. The best way to ring in the New Year is by celebrating time past before jumping headfirst into the future, and The Exotics know how to help you do exactly that. [BM]
SATURDAY
ADIA VICTORIA W/ TRISTEN, PUJOL, MARGO PRICE
@ The 5 Spot | 9pm | $5 | 21+
We already ran this show down with a full preview, but, if you are too lazy to click that link, Adia Victoria is performing at The 5 Spot on Saturday night. What’s even more interesting? Things get started with poetry from Tristen, Pujol, Margo Price, and Linwood from Those Darlins will be spinning records. For $5, this is a no brainer. [JSa]
R. STEVIE MOORE W/ RABBIT RABBIT, GAY VIBES, DESDA
@ Queen Ave Art Collective | 9pm | $cheap | 18+
Typically, Nashville is known as a town that’s great for getting a chance to see strong up and coming acts. While that statement may be true of some of the openers of this Saturday night show at the Queen Ave Art Collective, for the headliner, nothing could be further from the truth. R. Stevie Moore first began playing psychedelia several decades ago, and since then has developed a reputation as somewhat of a cult legend in that scene. To this day, the talented musician regularly drops mind-bending performances, and remains an important beacon in the Nashville experimental scene. Alongside Rabbit Rabbit, Gay Vibes, and Desda, R. Stevie Moore is sure to put on one of the more interesting shows available this weekend. [JS]
BLACK DIAMOND STRINGS, WE SPEAK IN COLORS, SUNRISE EYES, CATFISH, TAYLOR COLE, THE PONCE BROTHERS, UGLY KIDS CLUB
@ The High Watt | 9pm | $5 | 18+
Do you always want to go to 8 off 8th’s on Monday nights to find the next bands to blow up in Music City, but, alas, it is a Monday and you’re too tired to make it out? It happens to us all the time too. Well, here’s your chance on a weekend night. It’s a smorgasboard of up and coming talent all crammed into the comfortable confines of The High Watt on Saturday. WINGS OF APOLLO W/ DYNAMO & FLORALORIX
@ Exit/In | 8pm | $5 | 18+
Nashville based power party rock trio Wings of Apollo headline a great low dough show at Exit/In. Look for reggae bad asses Floralorix to kick it off with R&B, funk and jazz influenced (mostly) instrumentalist Dynamo in the middle slot. All for just $5?! Yes please. [JR]
CRACKER
@ City Winery | 8pm | SOLD OUT | All Ages
Nineties rock notables, Cracker are back at it and in Music City to grunge it up. Unfortunately this is yet another SOLD OUT show at City Winery that you’re probably going to be missing. Apparently shows here are becoming a hot ticket, so if you’re planning to attend a show there in the future, jump on it fast. [JR]
SUNDAY
STEELISM W/ LOS COLOGNES
@ 3rd & Lindsley | 8pm | $10 | All Ages
If you’re looking for a taste of two of Nashville’s more successful young acts, look no further than 3rd & Lindsley this Sunday. Things will kick off with a performance by Los Colognes. This six piece plays an intelligent blues-rock that’s quite pleasing to the ear. Headlining the evening is Steelism, a local instrumental blues group. This act is unlike any others around Music City, or frankly throughout the nation. They focus on crafting tunes that keep audiences wanting more, with pedal steels and Telecasters forging memorable melodies designed specifically to get stuck in the audience’s heads. Both these acts have experienced some national recognition in the last year or so, and there’s no reason not to expect each of them to continue growing in their own way. Catch them both Sunday at 3rd and Lindsley starting at 8! [JS]
