As we head into the first weekend of October, it’s readily apparent that fall tour season is in full swing! While this means there will definitely be no shortage of quality music to heard, you’re sure to be overwhelmed with options. That’s why we put together this feature every week, to help highlight some of our top picks for Music City’s weekend happenings. Read on for more about a stacked benefit show at The Basement, a GQ-curated music and fashion event with some talented locals, a release show from one of our longtime friends, a special Musician’s Corner, a ’50s icon at The Ryman, and so much more!

FRIDAY

JUHI

This Lightning 100 Artist of the Week was on The Voice just a year ago, wowing the judges with her killer rendition of the song “Mercy.” Hailing from Franklin, Tennessee, Juhi has a unique musical style influenced by Nirvana and Amy Winehouse. Her latest EP, Stress Case, is available on iTunes, but you can check out her single “Welcome to Catatonia” below. [BM]

RAYLAND BAXTER, CHEETAH CHROME, THE TIP, RICK BRANTLEY, JOSH FARROW, MARGO PRICE, BILL EBERLE, BEEF OVEN, DEREK HOKE, AND MORE!

A Bob Dylan tribute show? Check. A benefit for a great cause, East CAN Dog Rescue? Check. A diverse offering of some of Nashville’s most talented acts, like country crooner Rayland Baxter, punk legend Cheetah Chrome, and Buffalo Clover’s Margo Price? Double check. This is well-worth the $8 donation. [PO]

JUDAH & THE LION w/ PENNY & SPARROW, MATT WRIGHT
@ Exit/In | 8pm | Sold Out | 18+

Although this show is already sold out, you should still be aware that local folk rock fav0rites Judah & The Lion are playing at Exit/In tonight. This trio has seen a lot of success in the Americana scene (they even charted) and are definitely one of Nashville’s hottest musical exports at the moment. It’s definitely going to be a great show, so if you’ve already got tickets, you’re in for a treat. [JS]

CHROMEO w/ WAVE RACER
@ Marathon Music Works | 8pm | $28-30 | 18+

Described as “romantic electro funk,” the duo of Dave 1 and P-Thugg are an unlikely pairing – one is a Canadian Arab and the other is an American Jew. They jokingly enjoy stating that they are the “only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture.” While that may be a little bit of an exaggeration, what we will say is that these two definitely know how to create some out-of-this-world music that will make this show a raging dance party. [BM]

SUMILAN, THE AQUADUCKS
@ Mercy Lounge | 9pm | $5 | 18+

Sumilan hail from the Classic City of Athens, GA, but there isn’t much classic about their stellar prog rock tunes.  Half of the time you may think you are listening to a drawn out Widespread Panic jam, and half the time you think they’ve been possessed by Sabbath.  The result is a fucking cool vibe that will surely have the fans at Mercy sway-moshing.  Blog faves The Aquaducks finish this one off, so you know it is going to be a rager! [MH]

THE SLEEPWALKERS, SHERBERT

Alternative-country rockers The Sleepwalkers are coming down all the way down from Milwaukee to play songs from their new album, Lost My Mind in Stereo. Fuzzy female-fronted power pop outfit Sherbert is the brainchild of the Nashville-based Michelle Sullivan, who likes to write songs about sci-fi and her awful ex-boyfriends. [JSa]

MUSICIANS CORNER: MELINDA DOOLITTLE, REVOLFUSION, VIVA MEXICO, THE JONATHAN SCALES FORCHESTRA

This week’s Musicians Corner is a special Celebrate Nashville edition kicking off earlier than usual at 10 AM. It looks like it is going to be a perfect fall day featuring Melinda Doolittle, Revofusion, Viva Mexico and the Jonathan Scales Orchestra on the Main Stage.  The Acoustic Stage has Choro Nashville, the Ransom Notes, and Yosvany Y Su Son Tropical.  As usual, there will be kid activities, dog friendly stuff and a beer & wine garden. LERA LYNN w/ DYLAN LeBLANC
@ 3rd & Lindsley | 9:30pm | $12 | All Ages

Local Americana, country western singer and picker Lera Lynn, dropped  a new album entitled The Avenues last month that needs to be part of your life immediately. Equally important, is seeing what everyone else will be talking about live and in person. Look for Louisiana, Americana folk-rock singer Dylan LeBlanc to round out an all-ages evening of amazing sounds. [JR]

MARC FORD

Approaching legendary status in the world of blues guitar, and Southern rock guitar for his years of work playing lead for the Black Crowes, Marc Ford is now flying solo. He will also be playing a very special in-store performance to help promote his new record, Holy Ghost, which will be available for purchase. Don’t miss your chance to see phenom in such an intimate venue, it may never happen again. [JR]

ALANNA ROYALE (RECORD RELEASE SHOW) w/ KANSAS BIBLE COMPANY, ELEL

We’ve been pretty much obsessing over Alanna Royale since day one, so, if you haven’t heard of them by now, you’re clearly not a regular reader of this site. One of the coolest, funkiest, most soulful acts to emerge from Nashville in recent years, we couldn’t be more proud of their debut LP, Achilles, and tell you firsthand how much time and heart went into it. Listen to Achilles here as well as our recent podcast with Alanna to prep for the show, and be sure to arrive early for two of our other favorite locals: Kansas Bible Company and ELEL. Most anticipated show of the weekend? Yeah, we’d say so. [PO]

SOMO w/ FRANCESCO YATES, KID QUILL

R&B crooner and Texas native SoMo is making stop in on Music City to get everyone “in the mood,” with help from a Canadian pop/R&B/Soul singer (no Biebs, we promise) Francesco Yates and Shelbyville, IN rapper Kid Quill. Check out the video for SoMo’s certified gold single “Ride” below, and go see the next great singer in R&B, before you have to pay the arena price. [JR]

HEATHEN INDIAN, BREE, LAUREN FARRAH

Alternative country rock and roll band Heathen Indian like their rock and roll classic and American. The flying-V-playing punk-pop frontwoman bree named her band after herself, picked up the RAW Nashville Musician of the Year award in 2012, and has an album under her belt with another one percolating to record this fall. Singer-songwriter Lauren Farrah plays country and folk influenced songs made memorable by her sweet-sad alto. A solid lineup for a full night of fun at the 5 Spot with three local artists. [JSa]

MICHAEL PARALLAX, PREE, OJIO, AAVE
@ 178 Queen Avenue | 9pm | $5 | 18+

DC based four piece Pree was one of the first bands that we met when we started this little rag, and we were completely blown away by their debut release Folly back in 2011.  It almost a full three years later, but Pree is back in Nashville on Saturday.  We’ll surely hear some new jams from their upcoming release RIMA, and you can start with the first single, “Two Feet Shy” from that effort below.  The show is at the Queen Art Collective (which you can find out more about here), and also features Michael Parallax, Ojio, and Aave!  [MH]

JERRY LEE LEWIS w/ LINDA GAIL LEWIS

At 79, legendary piano man Jerry Lee Lewis stands as one of the last remaining pioneers of 1950s rock and roll and rockabilly, and, although his personal life managed to detract from his career over the years, his influence on the musical landscape of his time is undeniable. The fact of the matter is, you may never get another chance to see the septuagenarian perform in Music City, and especially not somewhere as esteemed as The Ryman. For once, the high ticket price might be worth it. [PO]

YOU ME AT SIX, YOUNG GUNS, STARS IN STEREO

British alt-rock outfit You Me At Six will be joined by Young Guns and Stars in Stereo for a night of heavy, melodic post-hardcore at Rocketown. Grab your tickets early, because there’s a good chance this one will sell out!  [PO]

CHANCELLOR WARHOL, FUTURE UNLIMITED, UGLY KIDS CLUB, JONNY P
@ Mercy Lounge | 9pm | Free | 18+

Presented by GQ, Mercy Lounge is hosting SETSTYLE: a fashion // music showcase. Not only is it free and set to showcase some exciting fashion expos, but it will include performances from some of our favorite local acts like Chancellor Warhol and Future Unlimited. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night. [PO]

ALLEN STONE w/ BAD RABBITS, THE SHADOWBOXERS

We first filled you in on soul/r&b revivalist Allen Stone ahead of Bonnaroo ’13, and in the year and a half since, he’s showed no signs of slowing down, with a new LP expected to be released soon. The real reason this show caught our eyes, however, is because of eclectic funk rockers Bad Rabbits, a band who never cease to blow the roof off of every room they play. Unfortunately, this one’s sold out, but, if you managed to snag tickets, you’re in for a killer night. [PO]

CHROME PONY, FEEDBACK REVIVAL, THAT’S MY KID, BLACKFOOT CIRCLE AND THE DAYCATIONS
@ The Basement | 8pm | FREE | 21+

Honestly the party, and your weekend, don’t have to stop … ever. So why not just keep it crank up for the BEST FREE Sunday Funday line-up featuring mostly local talent, like lo-fi burnout grunge rockers Chrome Pony, Southern rockers Feedback Revival and blusey punksters That’s My Kid. Bolstering the bill, and making the long trip from Portsmouth, England Blackfoot Circle bring so British alternative vibes to the party and last but not least are Virginia Beach rock ’n’ rollers The Daycations. That’s an insane amount of free live music and more than enough reason for a Sunday night rally! [JR]
