Just like last year and the year before, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with as many bands as we can from Bonnaroo‘s impressive 2014 lineup. In addition to main stage acts, we also want to be sure to give the Club Stage bands some love, so, for the next month or so, we’re adding a second daily spotlight. They might be the smallest artists on Bonnaroo’s bill, but the Club Stage bands are some of the best and most exciting up and coming acts around. As with our main stage previews, we’ll start from the bottom and work our way up. Keep reading for your Bonnaroo Club Stage Band of the Day…
LEARN
If you’re familiar with today’s Bonnaroo Club Stage Band of the Day, Donald Cumming, it’s likely from his work as the frontman of pop rock group The Virgins. The group just recently broke up (last November) after enjoying a seven year run. Since the split, Cumming has announced plans to release a solo album, but, as of writing, that project has yet to surface. This might be great news for fans planning on seeing Donald at his Bonnaroo debut this year, however, as he’ll likely play some new, never-before-heard tunes. Even more monumental? This is not only Cumming’s first Bonnaroo outing, but his first solo show ever.
While it may be true that neither The Virgins nor Donald Cumming have played Bonnaroo before, Cumming is no stranger to a crowded performance, having appeared on numerous late nights shows and opened for the likes of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. All in all, we predict this will be quite an interesting set, due solely to the recent history of this act. Plus, if Cumming’s solo material is anything like the upbeat, catchy tunes he wrote for The Virgins, we suspect that this one will be quite danceable as well. Start your Friday off right by catching this awesome artist at Café Where!
