As we mentioned over the weekend, Jack White and Neil Young appeared last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and brought with them a little piece of Nashville: Third Man Records’ own Voice-O-Graph recording booth. The refurbished 1947 booth, which debuted last year at Record Store Day, resides regularly at the Third Man shop, and its instant vinyl recording capability was used exclusively in the making of Young’s latest covers album, A Letter Home (read more about it and pick up a copy here). Before recording two songs live to vinyl on television (an apparent first), Young and White sat down for a chat, where they gave a bit more backstory on A Letter Home, and explained how Neil came to record in the booth. Though Jack made no mention of his own upcoming new release, points of note included the fact that “over 1,000 people have used the Voice-O-Graph since its debut,” and it’s the “only machine of its kind in the world available to the public.” Watch the interview segments and performances below, and stop by Third Man during any regular business hours to cut your own Voice-O-Graph single!
