Don’t worry y’all, a little rain won’t hinder the fine folks of Music City’s god-given right to witness 26,000 shells of colorful exploses shoot out of an NFL stadium this evening (presumably while a flock of bald eagles, drinking Budweiser and perched atop a NASCAR, look on).
Though many of this afternoon’s performances were canceled, it would take a tornado or extremely severe storm to stop this evening’s festivities, and, even then, organizers would attempt to wait it out, according to Butch Spyridon, President of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp.
As of right now, the Main Stage activities at the Lawn at Riverfront Park are still moving forward as planned, starting with a 7PM performance from Striking Matches. Renowned blues man Keb’ Mo’ will follow at 7:30PM, with headliners The Band Perry taking the stage at 8:35PM. Though the Nashville Symphony’s performance has been rained out, they apparently took a cue from the Ashlee Simpson playbook, and prerecorded a live track- so your fireworks will still sync up with classical, patriotic accompaniment, as intended.
The fireworks are slated to begin at 9:50, though everything stands to be slightly affected by weather. And, get this- the city has been attempting to “acquire additional pyrotechnics from shows around the region that have been canceled to add to tonight’s fireworks show,” so, what was already planned to be Nashville’s largest and longest Fourth of July fireworks show in history (clocking in at 25 minutes, and pegged as the best of 2013, and the best in the country), might see a Voltron-style supercharge.
If you can’t handle a little rain, the show will be streaming live here starting at 7PM (or, better yet, treat yourself to an indoor punk show). After the jump, relive last year’s celebration with a video of the fireworks finale.
