Easily one of our most-anticipated albums of the year, local indie rock breakout Soccer Mommy is set to drop her third full-length, Sometimes, Forever, on June 24. Produced by Daniel Lopatin, the record follows 2020’s critically-adored and Grammy nominated Color Theory, as is being described as the singer’s “boldest and most aesthetically adventurous work yet.”
That’s easy to imagine, based on recent singles “Shotgun” and “Unholy Affliction,” which both feel sonically-familiar, yet more more honed and adventurous turns from the Nashville artist, born Sophie Allison. Today, Soccer Mommy has shared another taste of what’s in store with album opener “Bones,” along with a very cool accompanying video helmed by Her Smell director Alex Ross Perry (who previously worked with the singer on her video for “yellow is the color of her eyes”)!
Capturing Sophie’s signature earnest and breezy, dynamic and captivating musical aesthetic, the tune feels like quintessential Soccer Mommy. And on its personal theme theme, Allison explains: “Bones is a song about struggling with the parts of yourself that you don’t like in a relationship. It’s about wanting to become better for someone and feeling like you’re standing in your own way.”
In addition to the new single and forthcoming album, Soccer Mommy has also extended her tour plans through the end of the year, adding a new leg of dates which includes a Nov. 19 show at Brooklyn Bowl with Helena Deland, marking the buzzy artist’s biggest hometown headliner to date!
Watch the video for “Bones” below, and get tickets to the Brooklyn show beginning Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m. CDT here (or sign up for pre-sale tickets here).
