MAY 4 – Tickets

J RODDY WALSTON AND THE BUSINESS

Southern rock act J Roddy Walston and the Business formed originally more than 15 years ago in Cleveland, Tenn., before relocating to Baltimore where they really cultivated their sound (and, more recently, Richmond, VA, where they now call home). Since 2007 debut LP Hail Mega Boys first brought them national attention, the band, led by the titular J. Roddy Walston, have released three more well-received records, most recently last year’s Destroyers of the Soft Life, and have become a prominent touring and festival fixture, frequently sharing the stage with big-name acts. With the ability to inject Americana into a hip, rootsy, Southern flair, the rockers are a seasoned, dynamic band best experienced live.

AMANDA SHIRES

Texas bred, Nashville based Americana songstress and fiddle virtuoso Amanda Shires released her most recent and fifth solo album, My Piece of Land, in 2016. Helmed by breakout local super producer Dave Cobb, who’s worked with everyone from Chris Stapleton to Anderson East to Shires’ husband Jason Isbell, the effort was largely written towards the end of Shires’ recent pregnancy, and thematically centers around feelings of home, anxiety, contemplation, and anticipation, ahead of the birth of her daughter Mercy. A gorgeous and personal effort, we can already expect a followup this year, so you’re likely to hear plenty of new and old tunes from this lifelong, one a kind local performer.

SUSTO

Named after a Latin American folk illness essentially defined as “fright sickness,” Charleston, SC group SUSTO are the brainchild of frontman and songwriter Justin Osborne, rounded out by a revolving stable of other performers. The band’s origins trace to a series of collaborations and writing and sessions between 2011 and 2013 in Charleston as well as Havana, Cuba, culminating in the release of their well-received eponymous debut in 2014. In the months on the road that followed, supporting the likes of Band of Horses, The Head & The Heart, and more, Osborne and the band fleshed out their sound and found some collaboration partners, which ultimately led to the 2017’s & I’m Fine Today. If you’ve somehow missed their recent stops in Nashville, be sure to show up early!
