SUSTO-2017-620

Riding high on the success of their highly acclaimed sophomore record, Charleston, SC based roots rockers SUSTO are set to return to Nashville to headline The Basement East on Nov. 16.  They’ll be paired up with fast rising local rockers Liz Cooper & The Stampede and eclectic folk duo Dawg Yawp. Tickets to their upcoming performance are still available right here, but we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan, so read on for details and enter below!

SUSTO

Named after a Latin American folk illness essentially defined as “fright sickness,” Charleston, SC group SUSTO are the brainchild of frontman and songwriter Justin Osborne, rounded out by a revolving stable of other performers. The band’s origins trace to a series of collaborations and writing and sessions between 2011 and 2013 in Charleston as well as Havana, Cuba, culminating in the release of their well-received (and well rounded) self-titled, full-length debut in 2014. In the months on the road that followed, supporting the likes of Band of Horses, Shovels & Rope, The Head & The Heart, and more, Osborne and the band fleshed out their sound and found some collaboration partners, which ultimately led to the 2017’s & I’m Fine Today.  You’ll want to catch up with ear worm tracks like “Drug Money” from the new record, and, based on our past experiences seeing them with Wild Child and at AmericanaFest over the past couple of years, you won’t want to miss their live show.

LIZ COOPER & THE STAMPEDE

It’s been quite a couple of years for Liz Cooper & The Stampede.  They have rapidly risen from Nashville newcomers to scene mainstays, and that isn’t likely to be the ceiling for long either.  Cooper’s brand of psychedelic folk, highlighted by her excellent guitar chops, is a treat to watch live, and it seems certain that we’re going to hear news of a full-length record any day now.  In the meantime, you should soak up all the chances to can to see this legit local talent.

DAWG YAWP

A perfect compliment to the other acts on the bill, eclectic folk-based duo Dawg Yawp will open things up.  Dawg Yawp got their start when Tyler Randall and Rob Keenan attended Berklee together, before returning to their native Cincinatti to focus on their unique blend of sitar and guitar that is often interspersed with synth and beats.  The effect is entrancing, and shouldn’t be missed if you are looking for something totally unique that you’ll be talking about for weeks to come.  Want to dig in to be ready?  Check out their debut full-length, which dropped last year, to get a taste.
