We’ve had our eye on this show for a while, and we even gave you a shot at free tickets, but now the day has arrived! Nashville, please welcome the one and only Fantastic Negrito to town, performing live tonight, Oct. 18 at 12th & Porter with The Voodoo Fix filling the warmup spot. Tickets are still available for just $15, so grab yours now, and read on for more information on one of our most-anticipated performances of the month!

FANTASTIC NEGRITO

After winning NPR’s tiny desk competition for 2015, and releasing a very well received self-titled debut EP, Fantastic Negrito is back with a full-length record. Building on his momentum from last year, Negrito dropped The Last Days of Oakland this past summer, and it’s more of his pioneering soirée into blues, roots music, hip-hop, rock, folk, and funk. No stranger to the music industry at large, Xavier Dphrepaulezz (Negrito’s birth name) got his start as a rapper. In 1995, he signed a major money deal, and released X Factor through Interscope under the moniker Xavier, before a near fatal car accident changed everything. He was in a coma for three weeks, followed by intensive physical rehabilitation, and a five-year hiatus from music. With his guitar playing hand permanently damaged, the former multi-instrumentalist had to find new ways to express himself through music, being reborn as his present incarnation. On his official site, he describes his music as “black roots music for everyone,” or “blues with a punk attitude,” but we’ll let you decide for yourselves below. So be there, to witness in person, one of the best come back stories we have ever heard, and fall in love with some new music while you’re at it.

THE VOODOO FIX

A four man powerhouse formed just a bit south of LA, in Whittier, CA, The Voodoo Fix are a genre bending rock n’ roll band that remind us of a funkier version of The Black Keys. Soon enough, they’d left California, and moved to Nashville to record and release their debut album, with help from Grammy-award winning producer Shannon Sanders (Robert Randolph, India.Arie, Johnny Lang). In Deep, which dropped earlier this year, is their very own concoction of rock, blues, funk, and punk and the record is one of the year’s best local releases. We look forward to seeing how it translates to the stage, as they are sure to be seasoned after their European touring debut. Get to 12th & Porter on time to throughly appreciate their brand of rock for yourself, and help support another kickass local band in the process.

Fantastic Negrito and The Voodoo Fix will perform tonight, Oct. 18 at 12th & Porter. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $15.
