Renaissance man Carl Broemel has been busy since he released his last album, All Birds Say, back in 2010. Aside from working with numerous local musicians around Nashville, he also helped to release and tour two of My Morning Jacket’s most successful records to date.
Now with just a bit of a break in his busy schedule, Carl is back with another solo effort, 4th of July, which drops on Aug. 19. The first single, titled “Sleepy Lagoon,” was released on Spotify recently, and marks a real growth in the talented musician’s solo work, seeing his compositions graduate from beautiful, looping guitar focused pieces to intricately layered arrangements.
The new album was co-produced by Nashville’s Teddy Morgan, and also features collaborations with fellow My Morning Jacket members Bo Koster and Tom Blankenship, along with guest appearances by Neko Case, Laura Veirs, Russ Pollard, Shelly Colvin, Richard Medek, and Jordan Caress.
Broemel is currently on tour with Ray LaMontagne’s band, but is planning for a solo tour after yet another busy summer on the road. We’ll keep you in the loop when a local show is announced, but head below to dig into “Sleepy Lagoon” below to get an idea of what the buzz is all about.
