If you’re looking to take your Thursday up to the next level, but money is tight, check out psych leaning friends of the blog Lasso Spells tonight at The Basement. They’re headlining a $5 bill, which also features The Beech Benders, and Ian Ferguson; two bands we’ve covered before and also highly recommend. All this amazing local music, on one bill, for under $10?! Madness you say? Nope. Just a typical Thursday in Nashville. Read on for a full report and get your ass out and about to support resident musicians.
LASSO SPELLS
The brainchild of Brett Dudash (former member of local powerhouse Ranch Ghost), Lasso Spells is part psych rock and part western flavored Americana. They are still in the early stages of their evolution, and this is their first proper headlining show. However, from the very beginning we’ve dug their sound, and, as they come into their own, we look forward to hearing what lies ahead. Word is a debut record is on the way, entitled Stuck In A Shape, but for now we’ll just have to settle for the latest single “Before You Know”. Check it out below, and indulge in their live show. Hell, you’ve read this far, so you must trust us on some level … they kick ass!
THE BEECH BENDERS
Another band that we are very fond of, The Beech Benders bring ‘60s era surf rock alive for a whole new generation; albeit with a Nashville twist. The instrumental outfit is a band full of very talented players (their keyboardist also plays in the surging local band ELEL), and their no frills, laid back performance style makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome. After just one song, it’s impossible not to smile when you see them doing their thing on stage. Be sure you make it on time for their set, and wax up those surfboards.
IAN FERGUSON
Yet another one of our No Country Presents alum who keeps popping up on awesome bills, Ian Ferguson, who you may remember from his time with The Kingston Springs, the local rockers that exploded onto the scene several years ago with their self-titled debut, before taking an indefinite hiatus in 2013 (minus a couple pop-up shows). With his new solo stuff, you can expect some of the same raw, bluesy, rock and roll vibes from the Springs, but with a different kind of edge now that the “dog is loose” so speak. Make it to the venue by 9 p.m. to see what tricks Ian has up his sleeve.
Lasso Spells, The Beech Benders, and Ian Ferguson will perform tonight, May 19 at The Basement. The show is 21+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8:30 p.m.), and tickets are available for $5.
