We’ve been talking about the impending return of Andrew Bird to The Ryman Auditorium tonight, March 30 for a few months now. He’s been teasing us with the release of singles from his upcoming 13th full length, Are You Serious, and we even gave you a chance to score a pair of tickets on us. If you somehow are just hearing about this, or are just feeling the need to get out on this hump day, you are in luck as a few tickets remain. Head below to find out more about Andrew Bird and openers Boogarins, and don’t miss out on what is sure to be another incredible show at the Mother Church.
ANDREW BIRD
Andrew Bird has been solidifying himself as one of the premier songwriters in America for almost 20 years now, and has wowed crowds with his unique looping ability and stellar violin work. This innovative approach finally reached the masses with the release of 2003’s Weather Systems and 2005’s Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production of Eggs, which both received overwhelming critical acclaim, and solidified Bird as a rising star. Bird has since released a number of more traditional albums, which focus more on full band arrangements, but the approach is still centered around his well crafted songs. The upcoming release of Are You Serious, due out April 1 on Loma Vista, may be one of the most introspective and personal yet, as Andrew, a new father, has delved deeper into his emotions, and doesn’t hold back in the tracks we’ve heard thus far. Bird has also enlisted the help of some powerhouses like Fiona Apple on the standout duet “Left Handed Kisses.” You can have a listen to that track below, and then start speculating which Nashville songbird will fill in for Apple tonight at The Ryman.
BOOGARINS
Brazilian psych rock outfit Boogarins open up the show, as they are touring in support of their sophomore release Manual, ou guia livre de dissolução dos sonhos (translated from Portuguese: Manual, or free guide to the dissolution of dreams). We first caught the band about a year and a half ago when they opened for The Clean at The Stone Fox in one of our top shows of 2014. They were a rambunctious foursome at that point living on equal parts piss and vinegar, but were some of the nicest guys imaginable. It’s quite the step to see them on a much bigger tour this time around in support of their latest record, and can’t wait to see how their music has matured on the stage of The Ryman.
Andrew Bird and Boogarins will perform tonight, March 30 at The Ryman Auditorium. The show is all ages, begins at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available for $35-$40.
