Andrew Bird-2015-620

Stand out songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Andrew Bird has announced a Spring 2016 tour that will land him at the Ryman Auditorium on March 30, and he also teased a 13th studio album to be released “soon.”   Bird appears to be setting himself up for a big summer, that is sure to include a number of festival stops, starting with a set at this year’s Big Ears Festival in Knoxville on April 1.  Can we count on him for a Bonnaroo appearance as well?  Time will tell, but, in the meantime, head below for a bit more about Andrew Bird, and for a chance to win a pair of tickets before they go on sale Dec. 4 at 10am CST.

ANDREW BIRD

Multi-instrumentalist and acclaimed songwriter Andrew Bird began his craft at the ripe old age of 4.  After studying music during his formal education, he struck out on his own after college, and began to find mainstream notoriety after working with the Squirrel Nut Zippers.  His solo albums really took off after the release of his intensely looped arrangements from his 2003 release, Weather Systems.  Since then, Bird has been a bit of a hot commodity bouncing between several taste making indie labels, and, now on Mom + Pop Records, he is preparing to release his 13th studio album, as is teased in the spring tour promo video below.  The real magic of Bird though is his live performance, which ranges from full band hyper arrangements to stripped down pieces featuring Bird and a looping pedal.  You can get a taste of the stripped down sound in the second video below from KEXP .  We caught Bird’s last performance at The Ryman in 2012, and the utter beauty of that performance in a room like the Mother Church is reason in itself to consider this a not-to-miss spring concert.  And, for those of you that have strong feelings about all of the senseless violence that has been happening around the world of late, Andrew will be donating $1 of every ticket sold to benefit local charities that are working to end gun violence to build safer communities.
