Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, one of our favorite folk rock groups, are at it again with the release of a new video for “Astonished Man.” This is a song from the group’s upcoming fourth full-length, A Man Alive, due out next Friday, March 4 through Ribbon Music. Back in December, we brought you news of the premiere of lead single “Nobody Dies,” along with a tour announcement, which brings the group back to Nashville April 6 for a performance at Mercy Lounge with Saintseneca.
“Astonished Man” is a catchy and playful track that showcases both Thao Nguyen’s songwriting and vocal skills and Merill Garbus’s (Tune-Yards) signature production, bass-driven but still full of whimsical melodies and an infectious riff. The video was directed by Brooke Linder and plays off the theme of a horror movie, fake blood and weapons included. It’s slightly dark and features plenty of symmetry and artistic vision. Watch the video “Astonished Man” below, pre-order A Man Alive in physical or digital format, and grab tickets to Thao’s upcoming show right here.
