This has been a big year for local favorites All Them Witches, to say the least. Not only are the psych rockers gearing up for their first big label release, Dying Surfer Meets His Maker (out Oct. 30 via New West Records), but they also just took off for a headlining tour across the U.S. Part of said tour includes a two-night run at 3rd & Lindsley, on Saturday, Nov. 7 (with New Madrid) and Sunday, Nov. 8 (with Chrome Pony) to help celebrate Lightning 100’s 25th Birthday as well as their regular Nashville Sunday Night live series. And, since it will only be a week after the new album is released, it’s bound to be one hell of a party. That also means these shows will probably sell out, so you don’t want to wait until the last minute to try and get tickets. You can grab them here for the Saturday show and/or here for the Sunday show, but since we know that the upcoming holiday season (how the hell is it almost Christmas already?!) can leave you strapped for cash, we’re playing Santa and giving a lucky reader the chance to win a pair of tickets for both nights, so read on to find out more about the show and enter below.
ALL THEM WITCHES
Mixing influences of psychedelic rock, heavy metal and swampy blues, All Them Witches are one of the most diverse and dynamic rock bands to emerge from Nashville’s music scene. The four-piece group, comprised of Robby Staebler (drums), Michael Parks, Jr. (bass, vocals, guitar), Ben McLeod (guitar), and Allan Vancleave (keys, violin), gained a reputation for a thrilling live show, mostly built on their musical chemistry and ability to jam rather than solely relying on structured songs. They got their start in 2012 with their debut album Our Mother Electricity, but really gained momentum last year with Lightning At The Door, which featured stand-out tracks like “Charles William” and “When God Comes Back,” which showcased their Southern Gothic style of songwriting perfectly paired with rowdy guitars.
The hype surrounding the album last year apparently attracted the attention of reputable record label New West Records and led to them backing the forthcoming album, Dying Surfer Meets His Maker, which comes out on Oct. 30. Written in the style of concept album and recorded in a remote cabin in East Tennessee, Dying Surfer Meets his Maker is mainly inspired by the various upbringings and travels of the band, allowing them to create a sound to reflect particular places. Their latest single “Open Passageways” is a haunting track full of violins give it an almost Celtic feel, so check it out below to get a glimpse of what the new material will sound like.
NEW MADRID
Based in Athens, GA, though most members are transplants from Chattanooga and Nashville, New Madrid are a perfect fit to open up the show Saturday night for an evening of loud, fuzzy rock and roll. Supporting their second album Sunswimmer, released on New West’s sister label Normaltown, the four-piece add the perfect touch of Southern influence to classic indie rock. Check out the lead single “Manners” below.
CHROME PONY
You’ve more than likely heard the name Chrome Pony thrown around here recently. Fronted by brothers Kyle and Tyler Davis, the psychedelic/punk infused project won a spot in the Road to Bonnaroo competition earlier this year, and wowed us at one of our Acme showcases before that. Rumor had it that a new release to follow last year’s EP You Are The Pisces was coming this summer, and while they did drop a live album recorded at Audiotree studios, no word yet on when the brand new material will be headed our way. Listen to “White Witch” below from You Are The Pisces to tide you over until then.
