Justin-Cosmics-620

Justin Collins and his band, The Cosmics, have been in Nashville for a long time, but tonight marks their first time headlining The City Winery. In May, Justin & The Cosmics opened for Diamond Rugs (who Collins has also produced as half of the production duo Cosmic Thug) and we told you how Collins’ raspy vocals and punk-influenced songs drew in a crowd that tripled in size during the set. They’ll be playing in a vastly different setting on Friday, at The City Winery, joined by some yet to be announced special guests. Australian band Perch Creek, who employ tap dancing, the saw, and banjo among their long instrument list, will be opening up the night. The show starts at 8 PM and tickets are $10. The event is all ages.

JUSTIN & THE COSMICS

If you didn’t get to catch the Justin & the Cosmics show we were so crazy about at Mercy Lounge a few months ago, now’s your chance to get to hear them in their hometown for just $10, in a great room. Justin’s particular brand of raw and catchy tunes has stretched far beyond work on his own music. Though he released a debut EP with the Cosmics last year, Home Boy, which Nashville Cream named one of the top local EPs of the year, he’s also worked with a plethora of artists including Nikki Lane and T. Hardy Morris. He’s co-produced for the Diamond Rugs and had songs on both of their albums. Local singer/songwriter Caitlin Rose has said that Collins “has remained a bit of a best kept secret in our town, but I suspect not for much longer.” This is a performance you’re sure to be talking about the next day and a band you’re sure to want to hear play over and over again.

PERCH CREEK

Perch Creek originally started off as the Perch Creek Family Jug Band, and they hold tight to the roots of their music. Four of the five members are actually siblings and for over a decade they’ve played together, touring Australia and Europe and playing to huge festival audiences. Their music is wholly unique, a combination of five-part harmonies and a myriad of instruments, from the saw to the banjo, to tap dancing. There’s nothing quite like them and the passion they bring to each of their shows.

Justin & the Cosmics and Perch Creek will perform Thursday, July 30th at The City Winery. The show is all ages, begins at at 8pm (doors at 6pm), and tickets are available for $10 here.
