Big news for all of you reggae rock fans out there in Music City; SOJA will be jamming it out at Marathon Music Works this fall, on Nov. 11 with Longbeach, CA, R&B reggae vocalist/songwriter J Boog in the support spot, and possibly another, local we hope, yet to be determined opener. In case you were wondering, SOJA is actually an acronym for Soldiers of Jah Army… Jah being largely recognized as the name given to God and/or Haile Selassie in Rastafarian religious circles, as well as the short-hand name for God in the Hebrew bible.
Formed in Arlington, VA, around 1997, the Grammy-nominated eight member collective have released five LPs (including 2014’s Amid the Noise and Haste), two EPs, two Live DVDs, and worked with recognizable names in the broadening reggae scene, like Damian Marley and Supa Dubs. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 10 at 10 a.m. here, so sang some ASAP, because as Music City’s own reggae scene continues to grow (read this post) shows like this will be more likely to sell out. Also, be sure to enjoy a video from SOJA after the jump!
