We’ve been hyping the debut full-length release from local label Infinity Cat backed darlings Daddy Issues for weeks now (read this post or this post), and now we are happy to report that their official hometown cassette release show is happening TONIGHT at Two Boots Pizza. Whenever the fuzzy garage rockers are in the house it’s sure to be a rowdy endeavor, with or without an album release theme, but throw in local heavy punksters Jawws, seedy southern rockers Thelma and The Sleaze and new on the scene rockers Duck and the awesome factor is hovering around a 10+. This show is totally FREE and music starts at 8 p.m., so get there early and grab a slice, a brew, or several. If the weekend chaos downtown makes you want to cringe, rock out with one the best new bands Music City has to offer and tell them No Country sent you.
DADDY ISSUES
Local grungy, garage rocking trio Daddy Issues are not your typical grinding-it-out-for-years before finally ‘making it’ Music City success story. In fact, they are the polar opposite. They only starting writing music a little over a year ago. They to taught themselves how to play their instruments, and thanks to early buzz surrounding their single “Ugly When I Cry”, they caught the attention of local label (and friends of No Country) Infinity Cat. Shortly after meeting the label grand poo-pas, they were playing a showcase at SXSW, and things haven’t slowed down for them since. Their debut full-length record, Can We Still Hang, was just released on tape June 30 through former Diarrhea Planet drummer Casey Weissbuch’s 2nd Annual Infinity Cat Cassette Series. The record is fucking badass, and we highly recommend you get a hard copy now, while supplies last, and be sure to see them put it down live tonight at Two Boots.
JAWWS
Incredibly talented and incredibly young, Jawws burst onto the local party punk/garage metal scene late last year with a scorching 7″ (read this post). The Infinity Cat labelmates seem to be picking up speed just as quickly as the headliners of tonight’s bill, playing a SXSW showcase as well as opening for national touring acts like The Offspring and JEFF The Brotherhood. Did we mention that they just graduated high school?! The sky seems to be the limit, as they expand their sound and audience, while being embraced by the thriving local indie rock scene.
THELMA AND THE SLEAZE
If you like your rock ’n’ roll fast, loose, crude and on the raunchy side, then Thelma and The Sleaze are the band for you. We are thoroughly impressed every time we catch them live; not just with their talent and super high energy show, but with their ‘we give zero fucks’ attitude. Dressed to lewdly impress, with pictures of naked women plastered to their amplifiers, these gals make no bones about being salacious southern rock mavins, but we assure you it’s not just schtick. They can shred, and deserve more than a passing listen. Decide for yourselves when you see they tear it up tonight.
DUCK
All we really know about Duck is they are a side project from local guitar heroes Diarrhea Planet, whose indie shred heavy punk rock has been making a name for itself nationally ever since they exploded onto the scene in 2009. If Duck are anything like DP, and we have a feeling they might be, expect to have you skull melted by some of the fastest guitar licks and riffs in town.
Daddy Issues, Jawws, Thelma and The Sleaze, and Duck will perform TONIGHT at Two Boots Pizza. The show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m., and it’s 100% FREE.
