It’s been well over a decade since piano pop songstress Vanessa Carlton exploded onto the musical scene with her platinum selling debut, Be Not Nobody, and nearly four years since her most recent effort, Rabbits on the Run. After an eventual few years, which included marrying her husband, John McCauley of Deer Tick, giving birth to a daughter, and moving from New York to Nashville, Carlton is ready to make her musical return, and her latest single, “Blue Pool,” out ahead of an EP of the same name, is a definite shift in tone and direction. Employing minimalist orchestration, haunting production, hypnotic melodies, and emotionally dense lyrics, “Blue Pool” is our favorite song from Vanessa in years, and has us floored for the EP’s July 24 release via indie label Dine Alone Records. Look for a new full-length, Liberman, out in October, and listen to “Blue Pool” below!
