Acclaimed producer, singer-songwriter, and occasional Nashville resident Butch Walker has been making music in various projects for decades (and producing some of the biggest bands of the ’00s throughout), but his latest album, Afraid of Ghosts, might just be his best yet; a total, musical culmination of his many years of diverse outlets and experience. Out in support of its runaway success, Butch will play his largest headlining Music City show in recent memory May 17 at War Memorial Auditorium, along with Jonathan Tyler. Though you can still grab tickets for this one right here, we’re so looking forward to it that we’re also going to be giving away a pair, so read on for details and enter below!

BUTCH WALKER

Though he hails from Atlanta and spends a considerable amount of time in Los Angeles, singer-songwriter and acclaimed producer Butch Walker at least maintains a part-time residence right here in Nashville (it’s not uncommon to see him riding around on his motorcycle or spending time at Barista Parlor). Just the right age to have come up during the prime era of ’80s hair metal, Walker started out his career at the end of the ’80s in a group of that nature called SouthGang. A series of subsequent projects throughout the ’90s would follow and, led Butch to form Marvelous 3, marking his move towards a more power pop informed sound, and garnering further commercial interest.

By the ’00s, Walker (who’s only 45, by the way, he’s had quite the prolific and constantly evolving career) had branched out as solo artist, and began working as a producer for a variety of rock, pop, and pop punk artists. Though his fame continued to rise, his reputation as a producer progressed even more rapidly, and landed him high profile gigs working with the likes of Katy Perry, Pink, Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Weezer, Dashboard Confessional, and more. Always a critical favorite, Butch has built a rabid fanbase through his sincere, unabashed embrace of pop meets rock and roll spirit, decades of touring with various projects, and, more recently through a documentary about his career, Out of Focus. On his latest album, Walker enlisted longtime friend Ryan Adams to handle prodcution duties, and featured collaborations from impressive peers like Johnny Depp and Bob Mould. Most definitely the singer’s biggest hit to date, Butch has been selling out clubs across the country, and finally seems to inching towards the superstardom his immense talent so rightfully deserves. He’s a live powerhouse with an unreal back catalogue, and, especially in his adopted home of Nashville, he’s a performer you have to see live at some point in your life.

JONATHAN TYLER

Best known for fronting Dallas, Texas bluesy hard rock outfit Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, Los Angeles transplant Jonathan Tyler is gearing up to step out as a solo artist this summer, with the release of his new LP, Holy Smokes. While we’re not entirely sure what to expect from Tyler’s solo output, psychedelic rock-tinged, blues and country influenced, soulful first single “Everything Was Cool in 2002” (listen below) has our interest thoroughly piqued.
