Zappa Plays Zappa-620

We told you to grab tickets to this when it was announced right before Christmas.  Fear not though, if Santa didn’t bring you tickets to Zappa Plays Zappa at Marathon Music Works on May 7.  There are still tickets available, and we’re even giving one of you a chance to win a pair of tickets to the show.  Reminder for all you musicians out there, Dweezil is hosting a Masterclass before the show, where you can hang out and learn from the master himself.

This show will be in celebration of Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention’s 1975 album, One Size Fits All, and will reportedly feature the entire album performed in order.  Read on for one of our most anticipated shows of the spring, and find out how to enter to win below.

You may be hard pressed to find a more important musical heritage than the Zappa family (save, perhaps, the Lennons or the Marleys).  Frank Zappa, and wife Gail, listed “musician” as Dweezil’s religion on his birth certificate, which he reportedly did because the nurses refused to let Frank name his son Dweezil.  It was many years later that Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa was legally recognized as Dweezil.  While that may not have changed the ability of the eldest son to play, it certainly would sound different rolling off the tongue.

As expected growing up in a musical household, Dweezil took up a music at a young age, recording his first song at the age of 12, and was embarking on a successful solo career prior to the death of his father in 1993.  He has also spent the past 30+ years working on his opus, featuring guitar work from 35 legends (there is still hope that we will hear this in our lifetime).  Since the mid 2000s, Dweezil has been paying tribute to his father’s work in Zappa Plays Zappa by bringing in some of the original members of the Mothers Of Invention to bring the iconic works to life for fans of a younger generation to enjoy, and even won a Grammy in 2009 for best rock instrumental performance for their version of the instrumental masterpiece “Peaches En Regalia.”  Go ahead and expect to hear that and the rest of your Zappa favorites along with One Size Fits All in it’s entirety on May 7th at Marathon Music Works.  Head below for the tracklisting, a live video from 1975 for Inca Roads, and for your chance to win tickets!
