Arguably Odd Future’s biggest breakout star, next to r&b juggernaut Frank Ocean and de-facto group leader Tyler, the Creator, a fact made all the more impressive since he was living out of the country during the LA collective’s initial breakout success, alt rapper Earl Sweatshirt is celebrating the release of his incredible new album, I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, and is set to perform in Nashville for the first time ever, Sept 15 at Marathon Music Works (following a postponement of the original date planned for May). Joined by breakout New York MC and member of World’s Fair Remy Banks, this is definitely one hot fall event to look forward to. We’re so pumped for this one, we’re giving away a pair of tickets (you can still purchase them here as well), so enter below, and keep reading to find out all about the show!
EARL SWEATSHIRT
Following the success of his explosive and critically lauded 2013 debut, Doris (itself a followup to 2010 mixtape Earl), rapper and member of hip hop collective Odd Future Earl Sweatshirt released his highly-anticipated sophomore effort, I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, last month. Only 21 years old, Sweatshirt has cemented his reputation for crafting some of the smartest, most original and alternative hip hop of the past several years, and his time with Odd Future (though limited due to several years spent in boarding school out of the country against his will) has helped usher in a new movement within the scene. Announced in error when it showed up a week early in a pre-order listing on iTunes, I Don’t Like Shit further expands Earl’s artistic ambitions, and is an early contender for one of the year’s best releases. You can stream the whole thing now on Spotify, purchase on iTunes, and check out the new video for lead single “Grief” below!
REMY BANKS
New York rapper Remy Banks definitely embodies the golden era of his city’s hip hop scene, while maintaining some of the young, relevant, and alternative sensibilities of Sweatshirt and his Odd Future peers. A member of Queens collective World’s Fair, who exploded onto the scene with their debut Bastards of the Party, Banks is flexing his solo chops with his upcoming higher, set to drop May 18. Check out smooth single “rem.,” produced by Odd Future’s Left Brain, below!
