JJGreyAndMofro-620

North Florida swamp rocker JJ Grey and his standout backing band Mofro are heading back to Music City April 16, when they stop in to perform at Marathon Music Works. Talented singer songwriter Anderson East is opening, and tickets are currently available for $25-$28, but, if you’re feeling lucky, we’re giving you the chance a pair 100% free! Just read on after the jump for more info on the bands, and be sure to enter for your chance to win.

JJ GREY & MOFRO

Getting their start playing greasy juke joints in their native Jacksonville, FL, JJ Grey & Mofro used to be just plain old Mofro. It wasn’t until 2007, when his grandmother asked him if he was ashamed to put his real name on his work, that JJ added the “JJ Grey” to his band’s name. Now, nine albums later, including the brand new LP Ol’ Glory, the funk laced swamp rockers are headlining tours across the nation and playing to packed houses. Also, at times, the blues, folk, and even gospel elements sneak their way into the groups genuine blue-collar music; working man lyrics and yarns about life in the south, which would make Bruce Springsteen proud. Equally known for their epic live shows, and JJ’s amazing stage presence, look for them to show out, and maybe even tear the roof of the sucker (figuratively) when they make their Nashville stop.

ANDERSON EAST

Hailing from Athens, AL, Anderson East‘s name first came to some prominence when his music caught the attention of super producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Kristin Diable). Known for his songwriting and his unique vocal stylings, Anderson is currently living in Nashville, and is hard at work on his new album entitled Delilah, due out this July. We also told you all about his recent opening spot for Mr Simpson in this post. Better still, get a live taste for yourself, just be sure to get to the venue in time to see him do his thing.
