A show of hands? Who’s tired of icepacolypse? With the overwhelming epidemic of cabin fever sweeping Music City, this weekend should be a chance for you to escape your homes… assuming we don’t get another wave of shitty weather. We have a pretty chock full plate of shows that are going on (at least as of our publishing this post). Head below to see what we’re excited about this weekend with another edition of our staff picks in TWiN!
FRIDAY
JD McPHERSON W/ DYLAN PRATT
@ Mercy Lounge | 9pm | $15 | 18+
Vintage rock and roll singer JD McPherson just released his sophomore album Let The Good Times Roll and it’s been getting raves for its ability to be a throwback record while remaining fresh enough to stop from being a mere copycat of the ’50s greats McPherson pays homage to. If you love the R&B music of the 1950s that served as the origins of rock and roll, this is a show you won’t want to miss. [JSa]
THE VESPERS W/ THE JOHN HANCOCK BAND
@ The High Watt | 9pm | $10 | 18+
The Vespers are an Americana/folk/roots band made up of brothers, Taylor and Bruno Jones, and sisters, Callie and Phoebe Cryar. The band was formed in 2009 and all four members were born and raised in Nashville. Taylor plays drums, percussion, and mandolin while the others alternate playing almost anything with strings with the sisters handling lead vocals. They are playing two hometown shows at the High Watt on Friday and Saturday to commemorate the release of their third album, Sisters and Brothers, earlier this month. Opening the show tonight is the John Hancock Band, which is composed of four friends who play an inspiring blend of fresh, fun, engaging music. [JMo]
THE SCREWSMEN, MODERN CONVENIENCE, AND NERVS
@ Fond Object | 7pm | FREE | 18+
Nashville rockers The Screwsmen are throwing a party at Fond Object tonight featuring sci-fi rockers, Modern Convenience, and Memphis-based dark rockers, Nervs. With Riverside Village being our hood, we’ve noticed a lot of folks keeping it local during icepocalypse. If this next front comes in, this will be the walkable BYOB Inglewood hang for your jams tonight! [MH]
SATURDAY
THE FAMILY WASH FAREWELL ft. JAMIE RUBIN, KEITH GATTIS, SONS OF ZEVON, NEIL NIGHT, EASTSIDE JAM, & SPECIAL GUESTS
@ The Family Wash | 8:30pm | $10? | 18+
Word spread quickly a few weeks ago that The Family Wash would be relocating from their South Inglewood location on Greenwood and Porter Road to the Five Points neighborhood. The Wash is certainly going to be missed for their delicious food and drink, but mostly for the exceptional acts that they host on a nightly basis. This is where the Nashville All-Star cover collective, Sons Of Zevon, was born, so it is only fitting that they would usher us out to the next chapter in the story of the Family Wash! Detail on the new location as soon as they are solidified. [MH]
LAUREN SHERA & ALI SPERRY, ERIN RAE AND THE MEANWHILES
@ The 5 Spot | 9pm | $cheap | 21+
Lauren Shera certainly experienced a successful 2014. The talented singer-songwriter just came off the road with Sean Watkins, and is about to depart in support of Jackie Green. Before she heads out though, you can catch her tonight at The 5 Spot performing tracks off of her third album, Gold And Rust. [MH]
BAD SUNS W/ COASTS AND MAUDLIN STRANGERS
@ Exit/In | 9pm | SOLD OUT | 18+
Well, we really hope you don’t go into “Cardiac Arrest,” but the Bad Suns have sold out Exit/In. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket, enjoy, if not just pine over their smash single below. [JR]
THE VESPERS W/ DYLAN LEBLANC
@ The High Watt | 9pm | $10 | 18+
This is the second of two hometown shows by The Vespers at the High Watt to commemorate the release of their third album, Sisters and Brothers, earlier this month.
