Phosphorescent - 620

Get your ass to Exit/In tonight Nashvillians (and visitors alike), for new wave Americana, Southern rock ’n’ roller, Phosphorescent, who’s playing a special solo set with local experimental folksters Boom Forest and grungy roots rockers Lord Buffalo filling up the supporting roles on the bill. This is a Red Bull Sound Select Presents showcase, so you can get tickets for a measly $3 by RSVPing here. The 18+ show will start at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), but with the price so low, we’re pretty sure it’s going to fill up fast, so get on it now or be left out. Need more convincing? Find out more about the artists below, and get a sneak peak at the limited edition Hatch Prints gig poster, which will be sure to sell out as well. Make sure you don’t miss out on any of the awesomeness!

PHOSPHORESCENT

Alabama native, and current Brooklyn resident, Phosphorescent (birth name Matthew Houck) has been on his grind for awhile now, and is five albums deep under his current moniker. He got his start as Fillup Station, and gained moderate popularity around the south, but has achieved a whole new level of success since changing his stage name. His inspired, and sometimes heartbreaking, songwriting sucks you in immediately, and takes you on a Southern Americana rock odyssey with every performance. Well told you all about his last Nashville stop in this post and got you hyped for his Bonnaroo set as well, when he was one of our Bonnaroo Bands of the Day. Be sure not to miss him when he rolls through Music City later this month, and get familiar with his amazing catalog, including To Willie (a tribute to Willie Nelson) and his latest release, Muchacho (2013). We’re willing to bet he’ll have some new material on display as well for his solo performance, and we cant wait to hear it.

BOOM FOREST

Local, via Wisconsin, experimental folk-rock wrecking crew John Paul Roney (aka Boom Forest) has been generating buzz all over town since releasing his self-titled debut LP last year. We were really impressed last time we saw him perform in an opening spot for local favorite, Langhorne Slim, at another Red Bull Sound Select Presents showcase (read this post), and we are eager to see what other tricks he has up his sleeve. have a taste below, and be sure to get their early enough to see him do his thang, thang.

LORD BUFFALO

Raising from the ashes of the now defunct Hot Pentecostals, Lord Buffalo is a self described “mud-folk” band from Austin, TX, that just dropped their latest, Castle Tapes EP, in December.  Included on the EP is a folked out version of pioneering psych rock phenom Rocky Erickson’s (of 13th Floor Elevators fame) “Two-Headed Dog,” and, if they have half the charisma of Erickson, we are all in for a treat! Make sure you get to the show early so you don’t miss a thing.

Phosphorescent, Boom Forest, and Lord Buffalo will perform TONIGHT at Exit/ In. The show is 18 +, begins at at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $3 by RSVPing here.
