StPaulAndTheBrokenBones-620

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, folks are gearing up for the next major holiday: Christmas. However, we’d like to momentarily look past Dec. 25 and ask you what your plans are for New Year’s Eve. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably got your eye on the St. Paul and the Broken Bones show going down at Marathon Music Works and presented by Lightning 100. The soulful act will be joined by The Black Cadillacs and Through The Sparks, and things will begin at 9 p.m. and carry on well into the new year. You can still purchase tickets here for $30, but, if you’re feeling lucky, we also have a pair to give away! To find out a bit more about the bands and enter the contest, please click on through the jump…

ST. PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES

Though this seven-piece soul/rock act originated in Birmingham, St. Paul and the Broken Bones have had no trouble establishing a following both here in Nashville and across the country. Frankly, their rapid rise in popularity is rather easy to understand. Led by Paul Janeway’s stunning vocals, the group’s tight drum grooves and blaring horn lines are enough to please any listener. Whether it’s been on numerous festival stages, club shows here in town, or at our very own Live on the Green series, St. Paul have wowed us live time and time again. Furthermore, the group’s lyrics are intelligent and cleverly written. On all fronts, this band delivers, and you just know their New Year’s Eve performance will be one to remember.

THE BLACK CADILLACS

Coming out of nearby Knoxville, The Black Cadillacs are a five piece, full-steam rock act that have made quite a name for themselves over the last couple of years. If you’re already familiar with the group, you’d likely be interested to know that they just participated in the Red Bull Sound Select 30 Days in LA gig. This means that the band have new tunes to roll out in their upcoming shows; there’s even a chance some of these tracks might make their way into their NYE’s performance, if we’re lucky.

THROUGH THE SPARKS

Also originating in the Birmingham area, Through the Sparks are one of the most unique and intellectual bands we’ve heard in quite some time. Regularly billed as a “psychedelic folk” act, the group prioritize nuanced compositional techniques in their music. The result is a multi-layered work of art that oozes and pulsates over the course of a track, sometimes harsh, sometimes distorted. This is quite impressive, and really keeps the listener engaged throughout the track. Their live show promises to be just as spectacular, so be sure to get to Marathon early enough to enjoy their opening set.
