Sexx

The East Room and local art collective Hong Meow have an evening packed with the most activities you’ll find anywhere for $5 planned this Friday, including music all night from local surf-punks Sexx, dark blues trio French Lips, singer-songwriter-pianist fauna halo, rock band Home & Away, and electronic duo Vestiges. Come hungry and early, as the doors open at 7 p.m. for eats from Actual Food Nashville. Hong Meow will be providing their photo booth replete with ridiculous costumes. There will be art from Said Del Diaz and Eric Richardson and a pop-up boutique from Vestiphobia with goodies from The Woodsman’s Wife. Entertainment between sets will include fire spinning by Dmitri Kyle and stand-up comedy from Dusty Slay. Did we mention there’s also five great local bands playing? Read on to find out more about the music if all the other madness hasn’t convinced you.

Sexx

Sexx released their new single “Surf City” this summer and are prepping to put out their first full-length record on local label Palaver Records in the not-so-distant future. In the meantime the surf-punks have been garnering buzz for their energetic shows, gotten airplay on Lightning 100, and put out the trippy video below.

French Lips

French Lips play heavy blues over electronic beats with one of the scariest, and most charismatic, frontwomen in town. Their blues slide guitar will make your hair stand on end and the band goes from cowboy songs to metal thrashers in a single set.

fauna halo

If you like piano-tinkling songstresses Regina Spektor or Fiona Apple, then fauna halo is the local singer-songwriter you need to know. She weaves similarly complicated lyrics delivered by a strong voice over proficient keyboard chops. Halo improvised lyrics and threw in a hip-hop song the last time we saw her, so this is a performer not afraid to have fun on stage.

Home & Away

Home & Away are a post-grunge quartet that didn’t have any media goodies for us to throw up here, but you can listen to their stuff on their BandPage.

Vestiges

The electronic duo Vestiges is doing two sets at this show, one at the very beginning of the night and one after the bands are finished playing. The band experiments with house music and electronica and recently released their E.P. Heat Wave.

Sexx, French Lips, fauna halo, Home & Away, and Vestiges will perform Friday, October 24 at The East Room. The show is 21+, begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are available for $5 at the door.
