DeathFromAbove1979-620

While they’ve slowly been snapping back to life over the past few years, intermittently performing at festivals and embarking on short tours, it was still a shock when, earlier this year, seminal Canadian dance punk duo Death from Above 1979 dropped a long-awaited and highly anticipated followup to their 2004 debut, dubbed The Physical World. And, while reactions have been mixed (we love it), the fact that they’re touring comprehensively in support is great news. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the group’s debut headlining Nashville performance, Nov. 4 at Marathon Music Works, ever since it was announced! And, while you can still grab tickets, we wanted to offer a free pair to one lucky reader, since we’re so amped for this show! Read on for details, and to find out more about DFA1979 and openers Biblical!

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979

Formed in 2001 in Toronto, Ontario, Death from Above 1979 first started turning heads with the release of a series of EPs in the early ’00s, before really breaking through with heir explosive debut, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, in 2004. Citing creative differences, the duo split shortly after, only to reconvene in 2011. Their noisy, dance-ready, punk inspired sound has inspired countless other acts over the last decade, and, in their absence, the group amassed something of a cult following. While their recent sophomore LP is definitely an attempt to “give the people what they want,” new music from DFA1979 is always a good thing in our book, and we can’t wait to see them utterly destroy at Marathon Music Works with new tunes and old. This is only the band’s second Nashville show ever, and first headliner, so catch ’em now, because it might be awhile until you have another chance.

BIBLICAL

Like Death from Above, Biblical hail from Toronto, and channel a spazzy, eclectic affinity for punk and electronic music. Their debut LP, Monsoon Season, which dropped earlier this year, errs more on the side of psychedelic rock than the evening’s headliners, but definitely possesses enough bite and unpredictability to keep DFA1979 fans entertained. Be sure to show up early!
