No Country in a Nutshell: The Weekly Recap | 9.15-9.21

Today is literally the last day of summer, and what a summer it has been. Between Bonnaroo, Forecastle Fest, Muddy Roots, and more, we took in more live music than ever! While festival season fades into one packed fall of tours, we’re ramping up to bring you more previews, reviews, announcements, and giveaways than ever! But, before we kick off the fall, here’s a recap of everything we covered in the last week of summer:

  • NO COUNTRY PRESENTS: Andy Dozier & Heavy Soul | Sept. 23 at Acme Feed & Seed
  • NEWS: GWAR replaced their late frontman with a former member and new female vocalist ahead of their December show at Exit/In.
  • NEWS: Guided By Voices canceled their upcoming Mercy Lounge show following a sudden split.
  • NEWS: The upcoming Bonobo show added Jungle to the bill for an even bigger show at Marathon Music Works!
  • NEWS: Mikky Ekko announced a show at Acme Feed & Seed this month for only $3!
  • NEWS: Moon Taxi announced their 6th annual NYE Bash, which will be held at War Memorial Auditorium this year!
  • NEWS: Talking Heads documentary Stop Making Sense screened for two nights at The Belcourt.
  • FEATURE: This Weekend in Nashville: Our staff picked out the must-see shows of the weekend.
  • REVIEW: Balance and Composure performed at The End with Seahaven and Creepoid, and we were there to catch it (w/PHOTOS).
  • REVIEW: We hosted The Oak Creek Band at this week’s Acme Feed & Seed showcase, and recapped their performance (w/ PHOTOS)!
  • REVIEW: We were lucky enough to make it into the Americana Music Awards, and brought you our review!

  • SHOW: The Building hosted the Eastside Americana Rock and Roll Showcase.
  • SHOW: Them Vibes took over The End with Bird Dog, Samm and the Get Down, and more!
  • SHOW: New York pop band Lily & the Parlour Tricks performed at The High Watt with Anna Haas + The Effect.
  • SHOW: Sexx, Churchyard, Scale Model and more got together for a Back to School 8th off 8th.
  • RELEASE: JEFF the Brotherhood tackled the Pixies in the first single from their upcoming covers EP.
  • RELEASE: The Future announced a release for their third album and premiered a new single, “Grid.”
  • RELEASE: Nashville rockers Tesla Rossa announced their debut LP and premiered its first single, “Vacation.”
  • RELEASE: Hip hop supergroup Run the Jewels released a new single and some crazy pre-order packages ahead of their fall Exit/In show!
  • RELEASE: Local act Steelism released their debut album, 615 to Fame.
  • RELEASE: Brave Town premiered their new single, “Things Ain’t Right.”
  • STREAM: Julian Casablancas+The Voidz made their debut album available to stream before its release.
  • VIDEO: Tesla Rossa performed their new single, “Vacation,” live in the Mojave Desert!
  • VIDEO: Nashville studio project Jupiter Is My Hard Drive put out a new video for “Best Thing For You.”
  • VIDEO: White Lung released a live performance video for “I Believe You.”
  • VIDEO: Wild Cub premiered a new lyric video for “Colour.”
  • VIDEO: Interpol released a new music video for “Twice As Hard” ahead of their Marathon Music Works show in November!
  • VIDEO: The New Pornographers released a live video of their performance at Brill Building ahead of a fall show at Cannery Ballroom.
  • FUN: Hump Day Diversion: Emily West reps Nashville on AGT
  • CONTEST: We announced a ticket giveaway for The Presets, Antwon, Chela, Lelf and Franki Chan Nov. 5 at Marathon Music Works!
