Hot Wings

We’re as bummed as the next blog about the end of Live On The Green and the end of Summer, but there is one more downtown event that requires your attention this weekend.  The Music City Hot Wing Festival is happening, and it features a pretty stellar array of musicians, including festival sized acts like Robert Randolph & The Family Band and JJ Grey & Mofro along with some talented locals featuring the likes of Preston Johnson, Red Wine Hangover, and Kaileigh Bullard.

While you think we are all about music, we are also humans who need food and drink. Luckily, promoter JRC Live understands that the smell of fresh cooked wings and cold beer, in addition to great bands is about as American as it gets.  Just have a look at the banner at the top of the event’s website… it makes you hungry, right?  Needless to say, there will be plenty of food, beer, and music to finish out your summer with a night to remember.

There are a variety of ticket details that you can find out more about here.  The nuts and bolts of it thought, you can buy All You Can Eat, All You Can Drink, BOTH All You Can Eat And Drink, or you can just treat yourself one last time summer with VIP.  Ticket packages range from $35 to $150, and, regardless of what you pick this is the most mouth watering adventure you will have all weekend.

ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE FAMILY BAND

An absolute crushing live show… that’s the best way to describe Robert Randolph & The Family Band.  We’ve caught them at festival appearances all over the country, and their set at Live On The Green last year stood out as an evening to remember.  It’s a perfect combination of rock and soul, and what couldn’t be better after a day of gluttony than that.  Check out Randolph’s perfect interpretation of pedal steel “Voodoo Chile” to get yourself in the mood for a fantastic end to a fantastic evening.

JJ GREY & MOFRO

If routing tendancies hold true, these guys probably just played back to back somewhere else in the southeast.  If your inquisitive mind has already started to wander, it’s probably because you know JJ Grey & Mofro from your own festival going experiences.  To say that the Floridian southern rockers have found success is an understatement.  We seen these guys on both ends of the coast, and the attitude of the crowd confirms that bands like JJ Grey & Mofro are looking at predecessors like The Black Crowes in the rear view mirror.

PRESTON JOHNSON

Blending southern rock and country goes hand in hand for a guy that salutes Jason Aldean and Brad Paisley as his heroes, but Johnson’s sound is an all around perfect fit for the little slice of American life that occurs as summer transitions to fall.  Have a listen to a nearly football themed anthem “T For Texas, T For Tennessee” below to see what we are talking about.

RED WINE HANGOVER

If you are a fan of 102.9 The Buzz, it’s likely that you have already heard the alt-rockers Red Wine Hangover, but this is good opportunity for those not yet in the know to get acquainted with a band that is making pretty big waves in the Nashville rock scene.

KAILEIGH BULLARD

Given that the spelling of her name probably knocked all of her friends out of the spelling bee, it’s lucky that the Belmont grad gone Nashville star gone “Miss Nashville” has an incredible musical aptitude to match her winning smile and stunning looks. Let’s face it guys, you’ll have wing sauce smothered across your face for most of the day, so it’s unlikely that you’ll really attract the attention of the lovely starlet, but, while the track below may give you the impression that she will run for her tour bus after her set, it wouldn’t shock us in the least if she joins all of us to party the night away in what should be perfect fall temperatures.

Music City Hot Wing Festival ft. Robert Randolph & The Family Band, JJ Grey & Mofro, Preston Johnson, Red Wine Hangover, and Kaileigh Bollard will perform on Saturday September 13th at Public Square Park. The event is all ages, begins at 11am, and a variety of ticket packages are available ranging from $35 to $175.
