Phantogram-620

Much to our pleasure, there’s been a ton of indie pop/R&B genre crossovers going on this past year. Though not new to the scene, Phantogram is one of the movement’s top players. They’re heading our way on Wednesday, July 2nd at Marathon Music Works. Synthrock group Bad Things will open up the evening.

We’re giving away 2 tickets so you can catch them both live! If you don’t want to leave it up to chance, grab your tickets for $20. Read on for how to enter, along with our full preview.

PHANTOGRAM

Phantogram popped up on our radar with 2009’s cinematic Eyelid Movies. Since then, they’ve developed their trippy electropop jams with flashier production and smooth R&B hooks that provides an arena-ready, diverse sound. The group recently picked up collaborations with The Flaming Lips and Southern rap king Big Boi. The Outkast member was so impressed, he jumped on an EP collaboration with Phantogram that is scheduled to surface later this year.

Phantogram dropped their second full length, Voices, earlier this year to plenty of fanfare. The record’s momentum propelled them to a slew of festival dates, with stops at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Latitude and more. Single “Black Out Days” has been particularly TV happy; Teen Wolf, Skins, Shameless, and Law & Order: SVU all dropped the track in their episodes. Catch the deliciously dark track below.

BAD THINGS

Olympic gold medalist Shaun White is the lead guitarist of Bad Things. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the music.

Sometimes good things happen to Bad Things. When Death Grips cancelled their Lollapalooza 2013 gig at the last minute, Bad Things took over the slot. Nowhere close to Death Grips’ industrial hip hop, the group won the crowd over with their 60’s style harmonies on top of glittering synth and guitar lines. We’re genuinely pumped to catch tracks from this year’s self-titled debut in their opening set. Get a taste of their single “Caught Inside” if you need any further convincing.
