Tonight is an amazing night for music in Nashville. We’ve already told you about the Moon Taxi and Allah-Las shows that are going on around town, but you’ll find at least a few of us making our way to Elliston Place, because Phosphorescent will be performing at Exit/In along with the incredibly talented Courtney Barnett.
Read on below to get a bit more information about both of these artists. If you haven’t already, snag up your tickets to this stellar pre-Roo show right here.
PHOSPHORESCENT
Singer/songwriter Matthew Houck has been performing under the nom de plume of Phosphorescent since 2001, and is now touring in support of his sixth full length album Muchacho. The subtle refined and experimental tendencies of Phosphorescent showcase an array of inventive instrumentation that pulls and intrigues in each song and on every level. Be sure to check out our extended coverage of Phosphorescent from our Bonnaroo Band of the Day post too.
COURTNEY BARNETT
We’ve been hip to the fresh songwriting of Courtney Barnett for a few months now, and added this as a must see show when the Australian singer/songwriter was included in the pre-Bonnaroo bill at Exit/In. The romantic melancholy folk of Barnett comes out most clearly in her latest release The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas which includes the 60s style rambling wit and drawl of “Avant Gardener”. The rest of the double EP matches the unique style of the first single, and, those of you that are big fans, can head over to Grimeys to pick up a copy of the double EP tonight around 5pm for her free in-store as well.
Phosphorescent and Courtney Barnett perform tonight (6/11) at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at 9pm (doors at 8pm), and tickets are available for $22.
