We told you about this show when it was announced, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting to reward you rabid fans.  We’re running a contest for a pair of tickets (as well as a commemorative show poster) for The Kills and Nuns at Cannery Ballroom on Friday May 30th.  Read on below for a bit of info about the bands and for contest details.  If you aren’t the contest type, you can just go ahead and grab your $20 tickets right here.

THE KILLS

The Kills are one of the biggest musical duos in the country right now, and they are certainly the cream that rose to the top in the electro-rock world.  The project that began by happenstance over a decade ago, when a young Florida punk rocker, Alison Mosshart, was touring Europe with her former band Discount, and heard a young British guitarist, Jamie Hince, laying down some riffs in an upstairs London apartment. They met, and just like the old story goes, nine months later we had The Kills.  We are now four albums in with The Kills, and are eagerly awaiting the 5th album, which is reportedly being recorded as you read this.  Even though we don’t have a release date yet, we can bet that we may hear a couple of the new tracks at Cannery Ballroom.  The Kills last played Nashville in October 2012 at Third Man Records, and their last trad venue show was in 2011 at Cannery Ballroom.  Needless to say, it’s been a minute.

NUNS

Nuns is the musical moniker of multi-instrumentalist Hank Hanewinkel III, and it started right here in Nashville.  No, Hanewinkel isn’t from Nashville, but it was during a trip to visit friends here in Music City that Hanewinkel discovered his new project, Nuns.  No stranger to the music world, Hanewinkel grew up with a music industry father and found success touring with his previous family based project The Red Alert, but it was that fateful cold Nashville night in December 2012 when Nuns was born. As Hanewinkel describes it, a guitar made it’s way into his hands and the flood gates of creativity opened.  The music that we hear today is a reverbed guitar laden pop music that is full of electronic bleep and blurps, which should make Nuns the perfect openers for a summer time show with The Kills.
