Bonnaroo’s Roo Clues ’14: Number 9 & 10

We let our Roo Clue solvin’ slip a little once again this week, so we’re back today with a double helping. Can you believe we’re almost there? In less than two weeks, Bonnaroo will reveal their full 2014 lineup! This year’s Roo Clues, which are all Instagram-based, have been getting slightly harder each week, and the latest, #9 and #10, continue that trend- at least partially. Nonetheless, we feel pretty good about our answers for clues 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8! After the jump, check out who else you might see this summer on the farm!

Let’s get to solvin’!

Roo Clue #9 is a picture of the Philadelphia skyline. This week’s Radio ‘Roo hint was to “look closer,” and, upon closer inspection, there appears to be a figure photoshopped onto a building on the left. We’re honestly pretty stumped:

• Just taking the Philly aspect into consideration, there are a TON of bands it could be. Of the possibilities, Dr. Dog, Kurt Vile, Man Man, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Walkmen, Free Energy, Dead Milkmen, The Roots, G. Love and Special Sauce, or even Hall and Oates would all be plausible for Bonnaroo. But, to connect any of those groups to this clue in any significant way seems to be a stretch.
• What if the Philly part is more of a red herring (as we’ve inferred in previous clues) and the figure on the building is the actual clue? In this case, and, as the internet has pointed out, it looks a lot like the robot from Metropolis.
• Which ‘Roo-worthy artist is obsessed with Metropolis, and constantly references it in her music and imagery? Janelle Monae. Monae also happened to attend a performing arts school in Philly, but isn’t very often associated with the city. Nonetheless, she’s our best guess. Though she recently played Nashville, it wasn’t too recent to count her out, and her summer’s wide open. [verdict: fairly likely]

Roo Clue #10 contains a bearded bald guy making a face, against an orange background, with the radio clue “Do you recognize that face?” For the first time in a few weeks, this one feels super easy:

• Maybe the fact that we only have one week to go has our clue makers phoning it in, but this one feels incredibly straight-forward; we’re looking for an artist who makes that face. 
• Meshuggah frontman Jens Kidman makes that exact same face, literally at all times. It’s uncanny. Don’t believe us? Head here to see for yourself. Every. Single. Picture. Bonnaroo always has an obligatory metal act or two, and this one seems like a perfect fit. [verdict: almost definite]
