Morrissey Debuts a New Song on Letterman; The Whigs Play Leno! (VIDEO)

In this week’s Music on Television post, I named the Pope of Mope’s Tuesday night stop on Letterman as the performance not to miss. Moz certainly didn’t disappoint, performing a theatrical new track titled “Action Is My Middle Name” from his forthcoming album (currently sitting in limbo and he figures out a new label situation). Hardcore Morrissey fans know that this isn’t a new new song, but it was the first time the singer has performed it on television and it’s currently unreleased.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you, but Morrissey is performing at the Ryman Auditorium in a mere 20 days (January 29). This marks the singer’s first show in Nashville since 2004. Amazingly, you can still snag tickets here. This one’s bound to sell out though!

Here’s Morrissey performance of “Action Is My Middle Name” from last night’s ‘Letterman:’

Squaring off against Moz in the same timeslot, our local boys The Whigs gave a fantastic (albeit condensed) performance of their track “Staying Alive” over on Leno. The band played an amazing show last month at 3rd & Lindsely and we named their latest record Enjoy the Company one of our favorite Nashville releases of 2012. It’s always great to see Nashville representing on the national level!

The Whigs’ performance hasn’t found it’s way onto YouTube just yet, but I’ve set the Hulu clip to start with their performance:
