My Morning Jacket’s lead singer Jim James has made the song “A New Life” from his yet-to-be-released solo album Regions of Light and Sound of God available for online streaming at Rolling Stone’s website. You can listen to it here. The album is scheduled to be released on February 5th, 2013. Also, the single “Know Til Now” is available for streaming below:

According to the online music publication Consequence of Sound, James was inspired to write this album in large part due to Lynd Ward’s 1929 graphic novel God’s Man, which “chronicles an artist’s struggles with temptation and corruption, along with finding true love.” While James’ lyrics for MMJ songs were certainly introspective, “A New Life” is even more so, and James is more straight-forward and direct in his desires. The dynamic build is gradual, which makes for a more thorough and intense listen. You can read more about his inspiration here. (Is he going for the Jesus look with that picture?) You can also pre-order the album through amazon.com here.  It’s also worth noting that Jim James’ label Removador Records & Solutions released the latest album from Floating Action, who are playing in Nashville tonight at The Stone Fox. You can read more about that here. I’ve added Regions of Light and Sound of God to my list of albums to review when it releases. Can’t wait!
