New Records Releasing Today – September 13th

Today is another pretty big Record Release Tuesday in the world of music.  I’ve highlighted some of the albums that I am most excited to hear today.  A lot of them are coming through Nashville too, and I’ve included links to buy tickets to see these shows over the next couple of months.  I would recommend getting out to your record store early today, because you have a lot of new stuff to listen to.

Girls – Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Possibly one of the most hyped releases in the indie world this year.  The new Girls album has received ridiculous amounts of pre-release excitement.  The most glowing is the review by Pitchfork who scored the album with a 9.3 rating.  I put up a link for a first listen of this album last week, and I just won’t shut up about their gig at Mercy Lounge this Friday.  In twitter speak, #sofreakingexcited.

Blitzen Trapper – American Goldwing
One of my favorite bands since they released Wild Mountain Nation and Furr, they are always someone I keep up with, and their new release, American Goldwing, is something that will get some time on the turntable around here.  I guess the jury is fair to middling, as the first reviews range from 3 of 5 by Rolling Stone and 3.5 of 5 by Consequence of Sound for this newest release.  Even if we have to go to hear some of the back catalogue, it is definitely worth the price of admission for the co-headlining set with Dawes at Mercy Lounge on October 19th at Mercy Lounge.

Das Racist – Relax
These dudes aren’t for everyone.  They sound like they are joking around, but it’s ridiculously catchy, playful hip hop.  The tracks are addictive, and Spin Magazine agrees rating the new album with an 8 of 10.  It’s definitely worth a listen before you head out to see them at Exit/In on October 13th.

Other notable releases today that I am excited about, but don’t have Nashville tour dates scheduled.  Click the links to read a review of each.
