I am not going to spend a ton of time talking about the first lady of Nashville’s new generation of music. Yes, Karen Elson is the wife of Jack White. Yes, she is a supermodel. Yes, she was a curator of her Nashville fashion boutique for a while. Yes, she is a product of Jack’s (ahem, Mr. White’s) Third Man Records.
What you should know about her first take at solo music is that it’s great. It definitely has a little taste of White in there, but it is Karen’s powerful and emotive voice. It is a view into a soul, or, at least, that is what the stories would lead you to believe. Supposedly, she hid away from her ever-talented husband while she was writing these songs. I’m glad she finally opened up these songs for all of us to enjoy.
You can decide what you think at this year’s Bonnaroo festival. Karen will be performing at Bonnaroo on Thursday (6/9) from 5:45 to 6:45 pm. Apparently, she has also already decided what she will be wearing at the festival this year, in case you want to try to match her. Good luck looking like that!
There are a couple of tracks below from her The Ghost Who Walks record. You can check out more tracks and get more info at her Bonnaroo artist page, and you can always find out about Karen at Third Man’s website. You can also get in the mood by listening to her Live At Third Man recording in it entirety over at Soundcloud.
